This gets posted constantly, but basically.

>Fuck you, I like it and want to LARP as a cowboy or detective.
>Can handle a wide variety of loadings because the energy of the cartridge doesn't have anything to do with cycling.
>Great for reloaders because straight wall rimmed cartridges are EZ mode.
>Can be in calibers that are too powerful for an automatic without it being impractical like a Desert Eagle.
>Those calibers make it suitable for threats that walk on 4 legs rather than 2.
>Can't be pushed out of battery, or have an obstructed ejection port.
>That means it can be fired from an obstructed position, which is really valuable in a CC gun.
>Great for people with arthritis who can't load pistol magazines.

>Prints different, less noticeably, actually
>No cases left behind unless you want

Aside from they look fucking cool, the appeal is that they reliably fire rounds with a lot of stopping power, and require minimal maintenance or effort from a shooter. If you are not lazy, care about guns as a hobby, and have certain technical skills, they probably aren't going to be your favorite. But for a lot of people, something they can stick in a pocket or sock drawer and not think about 80% of the time is ideal. They just work. A heavy DA trigger pull can mean poor accuracy from a novice, but most people that EDC a revolver are working with a snub that they would hypothetically unload on someone within five feet of their person, so it just isn't a big deal.
Anonymous No.64392846 [Report]
>choose
For what (purpose)?
Handguns can be utilized for many different roles and tasks.
Revolvers remain excellent contemporary choices for hunting, most types of target shooting, and self defense (both home and carry)
In the self defense and urban combat role, they've been largely superseded by more modern higher-magazine-capacity semiauto pistols; but some dedicated capable and trained shooters still rely on revolvers for self defense carry due to their reliability, light weight and concealability (especially in smaller caliber chamberings)
As noted above, for some users especially people with weak hands the revolver can be easier to manipulate, reload and deploy than a slide-semiauto pistol.

Rational answer: when you need it to chamber a cartridge so large that it precludes feeding through the grip.

That’s the only time I’d say a revolver is still relevant. But if you’re getting a revolver chambered in something with an autoloading analog, you’re gonna be better off with the autoloader. Pistols are usually lighter, smaller, narrower, have higher mag capacities, can be reloaded much faster, and can be suppressed.

I still think there is a use case for pocket guns because a revolver can usually fire from an obstructed position where an automatic can't. There's also people who either don't have the skills or hand strength to operate automatic pistols, but can operate a revolver well enough to at least be able to defend themselves. Arthritis is a bitch and old hands can struggle with a pistol magazine, but I can get even a 75 year old woman to load a 38 K frame.

Having to do safe handling demonstrations as a dealer in CA was really enlightening. Some people (very few, but some) absolutely can not operate an automatic pistol. They just can't. It is like they have two left hands.

How do you boys have the confidence to carry revolvers as your everyday gear, even in the possible event of a self-defense scenario?
A semiautomatic pistol with a full magazine will be more than enough to take down at least three attackers, depending on shot placement and accuracy.
How are you supposed to do that with a revolver and it's 6 bullets? Use a speedloader and pray, maybe?
Resident Wumbologist !!aZ2iZUdyUbF No.64410963 [Report] >>64411300

Most threat profiles involve one attacker, and even if they are a group they tend to be opportunistic. These aren't video game NPCs that will commit 100% to every attack until either you or they are dead. If Jamal and Aktavius see Tyrone catch a 125gr .38 to his gut their next action will probably be to de-ass the area and go fuck with someone else instead.

The principle advantage is if you get jumped from behind by Alex having a schitzo episode or Jose trying to score some more fent money, you are in a wrestling match before you are in a gunfight. This means firing from an obstructed position where an automatic pistol might either not work at all or jam after the first shot. It isn't a comparison of 5 rounds vs 7 or 15, it's a comparison of 5 rounds vs 1 or 0.

They're versatile. A 32 J frame weighs a pound loaded. It can be carried without a holster, via a hook grip or belt clip. It's easier to draw than similar sized autos and will fire regardless of how badly one botches their draw. The safety of a DAO gun is huge for me personally. As I got older, the risk to reward ratio of carrying a striker fired guns AIWB didn't seem to add up. Seeing guys shoot themselves over a draw string or something getting in the holster, mixed with the p320 fiasco was the final straw to change over to DA/SA and DAO.

The revolvers also look cool and your options for grips are nigh on limitless. Mastering the DA pull is tough but rewarding. All in all, a snubbie is a very easy thing to keep around and does it's job as a close quarters self defense tool exceptionally well. I even put a red dot on my 22lr J frame and it's my favorite gun to shoot now. I highly recommend everyone to try a 22lr or 32 j frame or at least get a classic 38/357. Revolvers are very fun to shoot.

Revolvers are the quickest to draw and put a round on target. If you want to win a gunfight, Revolver. This little girl could shoot Stoger 4 times before he even finds her and considers shooting.

A .38 special revolver currently holds the record for the highest number of assailants incapacitated during a self defense scenario

You forgot to mention it was a 5 shot 38 j frame at that, making the feat even more impressive.

Nice. I would like to read up on that cause I'm a tactics fag lol. Another case of its the person not the weapon.

I remember reading about self defense shooting statistics and one of the things they highlighted was that capacity wasn't all that important, statistically. They brought up that case as an example

It's the scenario not the person. Bernhard Goetz wasn't an operator, he was just at arm's length from 5 guys in a cramped subway car.

You can go on youtube and find probably a hundred or more bodycam videos where 1 cop and 1 suspect get into a gunfight, and the cop fires more than 5 rounds before the bad guy is no longer a threat. Almost any one of those could also be a plausible analog for a civilian SD shooting. I seriously hope no anon here thinks that a revolver being used to stop 5 people ONCE is more important data than 5+ shots being needed to stop a single person on hundreds of occasions.
