As someone who volunteers for trailwork and has been working on my own range, don't underestimate the time/effort this takes though. Definitely scout the terrain well first, you really want to work with it ideally so you've got an easy natural backstop like a hill to shoot into, think about water and shit as well. Having it earlier might make things easier then later as well, colder but without leaves or bugs. Honestly a winter one even could be fun, snow is a good time and frozen ground easy to walk around on, you can also move a lot of heavy stuff with sleds easy. Also another filter for shit heads.

Not in Maine but next door, at least in NH and VT there was a very bad drought and unusual heat this year in August/early Sept, but the spring was nice and wet and so stuff has done better then a lot of us expected. Foliage pretty darn good here, some beautiful colors and holding up ok, pond & stream levels starting to come back up with cool weather and rain, not a bad fall and should give the trees some relief for sugaring next spring. Here peak foliage supposed to be this weekend, further south it might line up pretty good for you. Zero mosquitoes at this point, so nice shooting weather in that regard, been breaking in a new gun and enjoying it.

Though if you go innawoods, rain has been very welcome but it has brought out a last hatching of ticks. I wear permethrin clothing when I go out shooting, end of the year is when the highest percent of ticks have lyme disease and other shit.
