The steel is harder for the extractor to grab onto, and some cartridges being tougher to extract probably adds up to that, but from everything I get, it's a very subtle wear and the cost savings of shooting steelcase ammo is typically more than enough to cover the costs of a replacement extractor if it actually breaks.
I don't think there's that many people operating like that, but I think it paints a picture of how little difference it makes on the extractor lifespan point, and you should judge whether or not to shoot steelcase on other factors instead (like if it works properly in your gun or if you're satisfied with the typically middling accuracy).
