Brazil is a legitimate power in aerospace. They won't turn over any major aerospace advantage assets they have to any other significant power. They're big enough that they'll just use this for power plays to negotiate better conditions for themselves. The Brazilians were about to select a Ukrainian upgrade for their M60 tanks before the Russian invasion and I believe they're working with the Turks/Ukrainians on other MIC projects. Like China, Brazil is better off not fully backing Ukraine or Russia. Though it looks like they may end up helping Ukraine in the long term as that would mean a gigantic contract for Guaranis and Gripens if they cede this faux neutral position.

That's not how IFF works. You still get a primary target, but the IFF will flag the target as friendly if the interrogation comes back correct. Bluefor can change their IFF codes daily or even per-mission, so unless someone is leaking the codes to Russia every fucking day the Russians still wouldn't be able to follow through on such a plan. And even if they did, it'd be perfidy and therefore a war crime to conduct an attack by such means.

They could feasibly jam IFF if they wanted, and probably are already to some extent.

You know the F18. The Grippen has one of those engines inside of it that the F18 has two of.
So the Grippen is what you would call a light fighter, which means it carries fuck all in terms of armament. That's not a huge problem in and of itself. Like, the JF17 is the example of this done correctly - a cheap piece of shit that works and zips around and there's a lot of them because they are cheap and simple.
The Grippen is not cheap, the Grippen is not simple. The price is hard to pin down, but the complete package required to own and operate one costs somewhere in the rough ballpark of a Super Hornet or Rafale, both of which are outright superior.
This is why it has been so extremely difficult for SAAB to get an export contract and they barely eked one out in Brazil where they had to hand over a complete tech transfer.
Also the engine is American so the US can fuck with anyone operating the jet through whatever arcane legal niggery they do.

Ukraine selected the Gripen E after comparing them against the Rafale and modern F-16s. I can't see why they would do that if they cost the same while also being outright superior.

Right now Ukraine is operating their planes, including F-16, the way that the Gripen is designed and optimized to be operated. Improvised airstrips with mobile garages to do repairs. You are correct. that out of all the modern western jet-fighters, the Gripen is the weakest one overall when in the air. If every single jet-fighter in Ukraine was replaced with a Gripen and a pilot who could fly that Gripen, the mission rate would increase dramatically compared to what it is now.

I won´t say that Israel didn´t beat Iran fair and square, they did. But they were also lucky they had the world´s only superpower helping shoot down all those missiles. Ukraine won´t have that luxury and they can expect in the next war that 50.000 Shahed drones and 500 missiles will be used in the first month of a new war, should it ever happen.
