Whenever I visit my in-laws I tend to bring my p365 in case we're caught up in some sort of emergency where I want to be able to conceal carry and then whatever other pistol I think my sister-in-law would enjoy shooting in case we have time for a range trip.

Whether you bring a long gun or not depends to some extent whether you have anything that's legal in the state you're going to. I don't usually bother but if we were going to see them in the near-future then I'd consider my Maverick 88. It'd do just fine for most realistic encounters and definitely the most practical of my Cali-legal guns, the 1886 and Garand would have a lot more style though.

Remington for stopping power and deniable plausability if stopped for inspections, works for most civil conflicts, AR15 for prolonged siege/hostage situations, a revolver + 2 other handguns (fixed piston) of your choice for redundancy and being able to arm people in your vicinity without giving up your own firepower.
The big boomsticks and one handgun go in your truck, remaining handgun and revolver on your person (revolver open carry, handgun concealed).
