Went to a new range in Detroit, another 150 rounds of S&B down the pipe without any light strikes. I'm just going to buy S&B from now on I guess, my gun seems to like it better. This range had some cool things about it like $15 flat rental fee with infinite swaps, but the fucking place had no markings. None. No numbers anywhere. I think I shot these groups around 7-10 yards but I have genuinely no idea. There was an unmarked line on the floor and I pushed the target an eyeballed 3 yards passed that assuming the line was 5 yards but who knows. I guess a $10 can of spraypaint and some stencils is too expensive when you only charge $12 for range time and $15 for rentals.

Seriously though, what a crazy lazy range set up. And tape? Tape? Why tape and not a stapler or aligator clips??

Anyways, groups got better once I focused on my fundementals. I found when I rapid fired I was driving forward with my arms and bringing the gun back over my left eye, but when I slow fired I would end up with my elbows bending and tilt my head to the sights. Took me awhile to fix, but I saw immediate improvement when I did. Wish I wasn't left eye and leg dominate and right handed, I'd have less to think about.

If you are using it for duty I assume that's work related. I personally hate spending my own money on work stuff, like having to buy $200 worth of scrubs every 3 months because my last hospital used a slightly different colour blue. I'd keep the duty setup and just buy a RXM since those are like $300 cheaper than a gen 5 19 MOS but still familiar enough to you that you don't need to embrace change. Spend the savings on a new holster and carry belt.

I pocket carry my Hellcat sometimes, and rarely my bodyguard 2.0. I actually use an old protective sleeve that was originally made for one of those inventory scanners that looks like a thicker version of a large smartphone or a PDA. It's like a leather phone sleeve with a piece of hard plastic sewn into it to protect the screen. Completely breaks up the outline of the gun since it becomes a rectangle in my pocket.

Here is what it looks like printing in elastic skinny jeans in the worst possible lighting conditions. It doesn't print "gun" if you use the DLC mono block clip, but it prints worst without it. I found that I drew it better with the clip anyways since it kinda seperates your pocket from the grip in most pockets which made the pocket easier to navigate to the grip.

Most pants and shorts don't print this bad, just showing that even worst case it's not gonna get you in hot water.

I have a Rock Island 1911 in .45, and I want to get a 9mm slide assembly and extractor for it, because it seems cheaper to plink with 9mm instead, maybe also play with .38 Super once in a while. I know I would be expecting hand fitting for this, but if I were to stick with RIA parts, would it be easier?

Also, where the hell do I find this kind of grip safety in stock? Saw it in a movie and I like the look, and I'm sick of the look of beavertails.

I use a sticky holster for pocket carry. Just get something that covers the trigger guard and keep that pocket empty. If you’re carry a j frame, you could probably get away with no holster, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

With just the one barrel and slide assembly you're already gonna be paying more than half what your gun already costs plus all the headache of fitting. I don't usually recommend tisas but they have a stakeout 9mm 1911 with an extra 38 super barrel for under 500. Since your main goal is plinking tisas is perfectly acceptable.

I pocket carry a J frame mostly and sometimes an LCP Max, when I feel spicy. Lately I have started waring cargos so I have giant pockets so I carry my Smith 380 EZ in there. I use Vedder Pocket holsters with the thumb tab for all my pockets guns plus my EZ, which I don't really consider a pocket gun, even if I do pocket carry it. I would always use a pocket holster, personally, but especially for autos. A proper pocket holster keeps it oriented correctly for easier and faster draws and adds a layer of safety for guns that don't have a manual safety or a long revolver trigger. I don't like sitting at the table and have my pocket gun pointed at whoever is opposite me with only the fabric of my pocket preventing accidental discharges.

Is the HK Mk23 remotely useful (i.e. unusually durable/reliable, exceptionally accurate) or purely a meme firearm? All you've heard about the Mk23 is apocryphal fuddlore spread on forums by boomers with no firsthand experience with the item in question.

Yes, the Mk23 is a very durable firearm because it's a well-built, polymer framed gun that shoots an exceptionally low-pressure round, so it can go tens of thousands of rounds before parts breakage. Lots of guns can do that. It's also impractically large, which is why SOCOM dropped it almost immeidately for the Glock 19/Sig P226/P229.

As someone with both the Mk23 and the USP45 Tactical, both suppressed, the Mk23 is the better gun when you're not having to carry it. It's easier to shoot accurately, it's much softer shooting. With that said, the USP45 probably does 95% of what the Mk23 does while being more ergonomic and smaller.

Getting into private security and I wanted opinions. I’m in the Baltimore DC region.

For my service weapon I’m thinking on getting a Glock 17 with a holosun optic with a donut of death, gas pedal/ledge (they make those for carrying inside a duty holster now), upgraded glock factory trigger (or potentially an agency arms trigger, not sure yet), flashlight with a laser, flared magwell, and I’m debating on getting an extended slide release and mag release. Is there anything else I’m missing?

Reasoning behind the laser is because I like to point shoot a lot.

I’m also debating on if I should get one of those slingshot wing things on the backplate, or the RISCpro round counter

All of this sounds like you don't know how to shoot. Lasers don't teach you how to point shoot, they train you to look for the laser dot, which is not a good habit. If you want to train index, just use your red dot. Gas pedals only help marginally, and they can even impede your shooting if you start pushing into the frame of the gun, rather than down on the pedal. The Glock Performance Trigger is okay; I prefer the Apex. Reticles other than a singular dot are memes, at least on pistols.

Really, this shopping list of bullshit just says you don't actually shoot or train, and you're just trying to buy your way to competency, when you'd be better off buying 2000 rounds and sending them downrange.

if you're going to go Glock 17 size you're better off getting a Walther PDP.
It already comes with an optics cut and free plate (your glock 17 would need to be a gen 5 MOS which is discontinued, hell all glocks are discontinued lmao, or you'd need a completely new slide)
It already has an "upgraded" trigger, the best striker trigger on the market.
It has proper agressive slide cuts so you dont need fancy wing shit.
Its also got a proper tapered magwell and better ergonomics.

You can either buy a glock and spend tons of money making it a sad PDP clone or you could just buy a PDP.

Hand loads mostly. Sometimes I run Critical Defense after a range session and I dont really feel like making more for a bit, but it's mostly the handloads. I tend to load 100 rounds of carry ammo and carry them, rotating the in gun ammo and my reload once a month until a particular set has all been rotated and once I am out, I shoot it all at my next range session.
Naturally with a J frame and a single reload coming to 10 rounds, my 100 round sets of handloads last almost a year before I shoot them up. Most factory hollow point loads are rip offs desu. There is no reason to spend 25+ dollars for 20 rounds when you can make shit that doesn't perform any worse for a fraction of that. My preferred bullets are only 12 cents per if you were to buy them online right now. Powder and primer costs are negligible and I reuse brass so it is very affordable and will perform just as well as any of the crappy, watered down 38 special loads out there. I've killed a few coyotes and a hog or two with them so I am pretty sure they will work just fine if I ever need them for goblins.

Not really, it's now going to be Glock 17V MOS and have incompatible trigger that's like performance trigger, but it won't fit old models and auto sears backplates will no longer work. It depends on generation, because there are already two glock performance triggers. And the first one was unreliable at least because new shoe had too large of safely blade and it would sometimes get stuck through trigger pull, which was awful, and that was fixed in new ones, the gen 4 compatible performance triggers. Are those really reliable though? They are still full precock competition trigger with miniscule history of reliability compared to the regular one.

I'm stuck with my lcp2 with the Hogue grip. If I lost it I would probably get a bodyguard 2, but I can't justify the price because if I'm worried 7 rounds of 380 isn't enough I can just jump up to 9mm (I have big pockets.)

As for the revolvers, I certainly shoot em worse than autos. It's absolutely just unfamiliarity and my own failing I could eliminate with practice... but I don't want to have to.

As for jobs, transporters at the hospital literally just push wheel chairs and it's a $18 an hour union job at every hospital I know of. Nurse techs at my hospital make $25 an hour and I don't think need any schooling, just gotta be willing to do grunt work.

Nickel plating is old, like centuries old, it adds a thick relatively layer which in guns that are really tight can mess up function.

Modern techniques use PVD coating which is a super thin layer that’s very strongly bonded to the surface.

This is Jarvis Custom’s CrN PVD coating. It’s a nickel chromium alloy. Very similar to stainless steel in tone.
