SAKO M23
Currently made chambered in 7.62x51 NATO as a marksman rifle and 5.56 as PDW.
Now that everything is still up in the air and nothing is certain what should be the caliber for a an assault rifle version be?
Personally I vote for Remington 6.8 SPC.
It's got strengths of all and weaknesses of none.

Finland literally produces a fuck ton of high quality 7.62x35mm ammunition every year.
Why not 6.8mm SPC instead?

Either retarded or wants thread engagement, but I'll bite for fun. 6.8spc is retarded and you should feel bad. No i will not elaborate as a self evident truth requires no such thing

people forget or are too stupid to realize in the first place, that the very point of an assault rifle, especially one in 5.56, is that it is the absolute bare minimum fire power that you can give to a soldier and expect him to come back.

this guy shouldn't feel too bad about it, apparently the US brass also forgot that part around the same time Ron Cohen started licking their taint and pressing his finger against their asshole

Where are Finland's massive reserves of 7.62x39 gonna go? Ukraine? Moldova?

To the wartime stockpile. Nobody outside the border jagers / urban jagers / spec ops is going to be seeing a M23 until 2030 at the earliest. A more realistic time scale for fully replacing all the RK's is 2040.

Jesus, really? They're just small arms. Does it really take Finland that long to make what are essentially AR-15's?

But also, despite what flat-range OOPERATORS and mall ninjas on youtube will tell you, 7.62x39 kills you just as dead as any other bullet, and the truth of the matter is that 95% of casualties in war comes from indirect fire and thus it doesn't matter what the infantry grunts are suppressing the enemy with. The only real reason we're replacing the RK's at all is because the military is running out of spare parts to fix the old guns with, and since we need to set up new manufacturing anyway, why the fuck not just switch to the AR for the better ergonomics?

>7.62x39 kills you just as dead as any other bullet
I get that, but I'd think that Finland would want to switch in a more timely manner to better integrate themselves into the NATO supply chain, and also for the political optics.
Estonia did it.

Finnish general did confirm that rk 62/95 will be in use for our life time. If finnish field army would mobilize and go shoots 3 shots at the shooting range its allmost million rounds. We can only imagine how much 7,62x39 there are in the bunkers and storages. Rk 62 are also in so little use that they basically never wear out. We can expect still to see most forest jaegers and "moose brigades" with old and reliable rk´s.

7.62x39 is great for urban and wooded areas and the rk is a great cold weather firearme da
>>64452752
Its not a huge priority, its happening but slowly. Small arms matter less than vehicles, artillery, datalinks, coms, intel sharing, ect

The first replacement programme was in the 90's with the RK 95 and that never went anywhere and the rifle grenades for it never went into serial production. If they get replaced at all it's a miracle, I think it's more likely we'll get an unholy mess with both rifles in use

You don't understand what a conscript army and total war mean.
The FDF is going to purchase more rifles than the US army is of M7's

>We can only imagine how much 7,62x39 there are in the bunkers and storages
We ran out of 7,62 after 4 months of daily extended range time (6-12k rounds per man) and had to crack open boxes made in 1964 to keep going. Felt kinda bad to use such fresh ammo instead of old stock we were used to

Some hills are just 7,62 covered by dirt as we had to store it somewhere after artillery shells took all the real storage space

>6.8SPC

When will this meme die? An intermediate cartridge should be small and light, light recoiling, have a long MPBR, and retain its diminutive energy as best it can until 300 yards.

The correct answer is 5.56, or if I may take the liberty to augment the cartridge, a 5.56 with a shorter case and longer bullet. 6.8SPC is the opposite of this.
