belt feds
Original shrike patents are expired. Multiple shops are tooling up to make straight up clones of the MCR or even more budget oriented options. Fightlite themselves are now making budget uppers to stay competitive. Anyone gonna buy one? Personally I'm waiting for one of the MCR clones or a piston version of the Ligma Six.

It's a lot cheaper. That's the only reason. It's pretty much worse in every way. Missing lots of little quality of life features, no quick change barrels, and currently DI only so it heats up fast. But it is a lot cheaper. Even the cheapest MCR clone will probably be at least $1k more. The only real advantage to the Ligma is it uses modified AR barrels so barrel availability (and price) is much better.

Hot damn I looked up the Lima Six after reading this thread and it looks cool as shit. From what I've read by the designer on other forums they're working on a quick change version, so it might be worth holding out for a MKII though. M27 links are also available on fuddbroker

The HK21 is one of the best GPMG ever made and its a closed bolt system. Testing has proven that you need to fire over 1000 rounds in an unbroken link to get cook offs. If you are putting over 1,000 rounds down range before barrel swapping than you simply are retarded. But yeah the open bolt system is so much better. Thats why the m249 SAWs are a 10moa gun.

I watched a video last night of people testing the Lima and they had cookoffs after about 250 rounds, but that's on a closed bolt fixed barrel gun. If they come out with a quick change barrel option I think I may have to get one.

I'll be honest I have never in my entire career seen a SAW tripod. Do they even exist?

The Lima 6 dude also said he wants to eventually make a .308 variant for purchase as well. We could have civilian 240's for under 10 grand. What a time to be alive. Personally I'll probably get the lima 6 just because a belt fed weapon is cool as shit and despite it's faults, it still seems to run fairly well and if you're not a fucking chimp and going cyclic every time you use it, it shouldn't give too many problems.

MCR is more useful when configured as a completely legal civilian firearm. M249S is better for collecting though as it's the real deal. Also, if we're being retarded and imagining pretend scenarios where you'd want a belt fed for something other than blasting at a mound of dirt, it's extremely easy to crime it back to its fully open bolt glory.

How is a M249s easy to modify from a Semi auto closed bolt to a full auto open bolt... Its not as easy as you might think. With that said, no one is collecting M249s's. They are pure copium and a waste of money. The best thing about the M249s is how it looks on your wall.

Best barrel length and type for a belt fed AR? I got in the pre-order for the lima6 build kit. Im thinking about an 18 or 20" heavy barrel. It will be on a SBR lower so I could always go the short route. Faxon has a 20" fluted barrel I was eyeing.

>>64464773
A machine gun crewed by two or 3 guys has more firepower than a machine gunner running solo and the extra guys with a regular rifle. Americans don't do it because they're weak or stupid, they do it because they've probably killed more people with machine guns than everyone else and know what works best. Between the weight of the weapon, the weight of the ammo, and accessories like bipods and extra barrels, they are absolutely not as maneuverable as an average grunt and it's kind of dumb to expect them to be. Also, the firepower and suppressive ability provided by the machine gun is incredibly disproportionate to the one guy using it so if he goes down, it's exceedingly important for the success and safety of everyone else to have the gun up again as soon as possible.

To be fair I don't expect your average person without infantry training and experience to understand it but you just have to remember World War 1. The machine gun alone drastically changed warfare and it's never been the same. MGs are just that important.

Get 2x heavy barrel in a 20" 1/8 twist. Heavy barrels take longer to heat up, the 20" adds a lot of velocity to the 5.56 which you will want for reaching out to distance. With how cheap AR barrels are theres no reason to only have 1 barrel. Because of how cheap barrels are Id also grab a 14.5 fluted for shits and giggles.

>>64465352
Faxon are Criterion barrels. I have a 1/8 twist pencil for my M16. Its one of the best barrels Ive ever shot out of my ARs. Reason I say go 1/8 is because it tends to be damn accurate with 55s and 77s. 1/9 and 1/7s tend to be more accurate with 55s or 77s (respectively) but less accurate with 77s or 55s.

Ammo is heavy, junior. If you want to use a machinegun like an actual fucking machinegun instead of a heavier carbine, you need lots of ammo. The basic combat load for a GPMG varies but it's typically 1500-2400 rounds.

22-25lb for the gun and optics
12lb for the tripod (if you aren't using this you may as well use a SAW, it's another unglamorous but essential item for actual competent machinegunnery)
105 to 168 pounds of ammunition
= about 200 pounds total

You are not going to keep up with the rest of your unit reacting to indirect fire, drones, or simply moving around on foot through a forest with 200 extra pounds of equipment stacked on your back unless you are a space marine.
