It’s all because it had a light trigger for accuracy. 1911 philosophy was that an accurate shot with a more complicated draw was better than a fast and easy miss.
Back when the average IQ of america was higher it was generally recognized that light triggers made guns more dangerous to handle. You can pump yourself up with bravado like

Today the average IQ of a soldier/cop is nearly in the 80s and they all carry safetyless pistols with light triggers because DRRR GUNS R ONLY AS SAFE AS DUH OPERATOR!!!1! and as such, police and soldiers are constantly shooting people, themselves, and each other by accident.
The extremely low per unit cost of a glock did not help matters.
And then SOF SOCOM SPECOPS tryhards started fanboying these guns because they think they are the most perfect men on earth and no one else deserves a gun.
