I don't get why they have this big ass shields
why not simply make the MG controllable from the inside?

>inb4 well you still have to peek out to relaod
there are ways to fix this

Ah, sorry
didn’t realize this was a Thurdiemobile; where cutting 0.1% of the cost matters more than protecting the crew.

The walls in that thing are thin enough to be pierced with handguns, so the added protection would be questionable at the best.

It's a rear line logistics vehicle and ATA missile platform, if you're within range of enemy small arms fire/indirect fire you've already fucked up beyond belief.

this is not an assault vehicle, it's a logistics/utility vehicle. It was also designed in, like, 2001 to 2004 if I'm correct.

so true, why is the backline logistics vehicle purpose built to traverse swamps and deep snow in the middle of nowhere not built like a next gen heavy tank

>uhm it's just a logistics vehicle sweety
logistics vehicles can be targeted by artillery and drones as well.

also there are other vehicles with a similar function that have an MG controllable from inside (TPz Fuchs)

also far from being just a rear-area logistics vehicle, the BvS10 is purpose-built for both combat and support operations, and is / was deployed in various frontline and expeditionary roles by the French, Dutch, British and Swedish armed forces.

They're already regularly tapping logistics vehicles 20km from the frontline in Ukraine

Some are, mostly newly produced ones which act in the APC role. A lot of old ones haven't ben upgraded with one though.

It can be used as a logi, sure, but you're retarded if you think this thing is used for backline logi instead of trucks. It's used for frontline logi and where the terrain is so rough a truck can't get through. It's really just a modular all-terrain vehicle which is used in all kinds of roles, from my head alone I know it's used as an APC, frontline logi, mortar carrier, medevac, SHORAD and as a mobile C2 node.

it was designed decades ago and that costs money. it was also made pre-FPV drone. this was not a concern at time of design. that is why it was not designed with a remote turret.
>>64469222
you'll note I didn't say backline.

Politics and budgeting. Would you rather use 200k to refit one with a remote station or use the money for equipment for front line troops?

you talking about CROWS?

Why is there no middle ground between “exposed soldier” and “gyrostabilized with night vision, infrared, and god knows what else”?

>Why is there no middle ground between “exposed soldier” and “gyrostabilized with night vision, infrared, and god knows what else”?
unironicaly question btw.

like is the soldier able to use the M2 iron-sight with his NV goggles and it just wouldn't work if it were to be used via a periscope? (then again: it would still make sense to at least have it as a back-up option)

I'm surprised we dont use a simple mirrored periscope into a gunsight like ww2 style, but I guess the mechanics and stuff to also control the turret traversal and elevation would take up a lot of cab space, when a AFAIK a CROWS sits on the roof pretty much and you control it with a tablet style computer

Some dude pointed out that driving them is a miserable experience, and this design concentrates all the miserableness in the driver compartment, keeping the fighting force in better shape.
