Wait, is the
>we put target sights on our military rifles
just a swiss thing, or did the finns do it too? IDK if I'm conflating the autistic K31 feature with the finish mosin because of the white death guy
for those who don't know, because the swiss are autistic the STG90 has a sight that's supposed to be 400 meters, but it's really like 300 meters + 3moa so they can use it as a 300 meter 6 o'clock hold for their shooting competitions. K31 sights do a similar thing where the 100 and 200 meter settings on the k31 shoot center mass, but the 300 meter setting shoots 12 inches high specifically so they could target shoot
Anonymous No.64487263 [Report] >>64487276
it seems more like a practical compromise to make your highest setting shoot high. basically it's 300+ instead of 300

the K31 sights go up to like a mile because autism. IDK what the swiss use for a battle zero. I just know
SG90 sights are 200 meters, 200 meters, 300 meters and 300 meters with a 6 o'clock hold which they say work at 400 meters
k31 sights are 100 meter increments to 1,500 meters. 100 and 200 meters both shoot center mass. I think everything 300 meters + shoots 12 inches high and they claim you can shoot center mass at 400 meters with the 300 meter setting and center mass at 500 meters with the 400 meter setting. and like logically why the fuck would you ever be shooting more than 400 meters with unmagnified iron sights unless it was a KD target range?

the swiss can afford to be autistic because their soldiers have nothing to do
the finnish cannot afford to be autistic but are anyway

You definitely are, Finn Mosins actually have dogshit sights, at least the early ones.

I've seen their quals and as a marin I nearly pissed myself laughing, even US Army quals are harder.

That's how technology works. Manufactureres and civilian shooters invent a new sights and the military tests it and possibly adopts it if promissing.

Everything comes from somewhere whether it was an internal design, or found elsewhere.

STG 90s literally have target sights. see the op pic, it's literally designed from the factory to accept a target iris for sports shooting.

don't they just shoot at 300 m off a bipod? I think the most autistic thing is they calculate accuracy some weird way where they try to say their ammo is sub MOA

They shoot prone ONLY at 300 and their way to determine accuracy is the Europeon style of "shoot 20 rounds at a circle and use the average to determine the CEP" just more Europeon administrative fuck fuck games which is why American ammunition dominates the precision market.
>5.6x45mm GP90
Just as accurate as 62gr .223 fmj (hilariously enough the Swiss use grains instead of grams for reloading) but it's even WORSE than M995 at wounding due to the retard thick jacket and 1:10 twist they use on the SG550.

it's an American thing as well, if you count the M16A2

when you shoot highpower, people at least slightly modify A2 sights. the swiss literally just add an iris to a mounting point on the rifle designed to take the iris. My match sights have a different L piece in order to accept the hooded iris, a different front sight post and the clicks are quarter moa and marked in clicks instead of elevation.
the swiss literally just screw in an iris into their off the rack military rifle

They're aware that their rifles will never actually be shot anywhere that's not a rifle range, so why not make the rifle more adaptable to how it'll actually be used?
For what it's worth they're looking at replacing the STG90 anyway

the k31s, not the rifle before the stg 90s, the rifles before the stg 90s basically had A2 sight, but the straight pulls before them had autistic target sights too. actually the semi autos between the k31s and stg90s have like 50 yard increment adjustments which is massively autistic on a combat rifle

To be fair these are clip on, the basic combat sights are perfectly normal.

They went up to a mile because of volley fire tactics.

You basically have your friends and you fire 100 rounds in a volley and hope you rain bullets and hit something.

I still don't see how it's that bizarre. They have their own military situation, and theirs dictates that fucking around shooting at 300m is the most frequent thing they'll ever be used for.
As for the K31, the 1955 dated Swiss manual for the K31 is easily accessible with a google search, and you'll see that although it seems odd, aiming 6 o'clock at 300m and beyond because a person at 300m is a dot that's tough as hell to cut in half in one's sights.

nah, K31's are fucking autistic because they made the 300 and 400 m sights shoot 6 inches high so they could target shoot
>>64491329
the K31 was adopted in 1933, they already stopped volley firing by WWI. It only makes sense pre WWI because there were legit battles/wars where they still volley in likes with repeating rifles due to lol no radio

>their way to determine accuracy is the Europeon style of "shoot 20 rounds at a circle and use the average to determine the CEP"
That's objectively the only correct way to zero a rifle. You shoot 20 rounds, adjust, shoot 20 more etc. until the rifle is zeroed.

I was utterly bewildered when I discovered American rifle 'zeroing' means putting the rifle on a sandbag, blasting 3 rounds at the target on semi auto in rapid succession and then adjusting the sights and then just calling it zeroed.
>just more Europeon administrative fuck fuck games
No it's called having enough data to interpret anything worthwhile from it. Imagine if the USMLE had Doctors answer 3 questions and then they immediately performed brain surgery on people. Ridiculous

This. Have you ever looked at something at 300 meters?

Read the manual, p55 and onwards of the PDF

It makes more sense to fire 4 five round groups than shoot 20. Otherwise you're playing connect the dots
Anonymous No.64492874 [Report]

he isn't talking about zeroing. the way the swiss measure rifle accuracy is different than the US way. like in the US we measure MOA which is kind of retarded. the swiss still do like the WWI era way of measuring where it's like X% of shots need to hit a target y by z so they don't count fliers as detrimental to accuracy, where as with the moa system if you pull a shot it significantly reduces accuracy.
also 3 isn't great, but a lot of time with between 3 and 10 shots you can get a zero that's within the margin of how much you can actually adjust your sights. like sights aren't infinitely adjustable they are usually nominally some fraction of moa like 1 click = 1/4 moa, 1/2 moa or 1/1 moa
