I just graduated from OSUT and my duty station is Ft. Hood, what should I expect or know? Never been to Texas.

It's basically a huge Army ghetto/shanty town packed to the brim with criminals, idiots, and scumbags. It's a dumping ground for undesirables. The same applies to the surrounding civilian area.
If you fuck anyone there you'll end up with black syphilis.
If you try to buy a car there you'll get financially raped.
If you go out for a night on the town to get hammered and have a good time, you'll get anally raped.

Do everything in your power to get reassigned somewhere else, anywhere else. Do it ASAP. I'm not even joking.
Lock yourself away alone whenever you're off duty. The only way to avoid disaster is to treat the entire area as if you're a lone survivor in a zombie movie, and to isolate yourself until rescue (assignment somewhere else) arrives.
I'm only exaggerating in a very slight degree here. The Hood isn't somewhere you want to be. Genuinely try to avoid contact with anyone there, and try to GTFO ASAP.

Do not buy a car anywhere near base. Im so fucking serious, do not, dont even think about. Save $8-$10K in cash and buy a cheap but decent Honda or Toyota from near Round Rock or Pflugerville. Do not buy a truck with that money because a $10k truck in Texas is a piece of shit no matter how high the lift or how big the tires are. Do not buy a sports car/new truck. DO NOT BUY A SPORTS CAR/NEW TRUCK. Do not use the money you saved to buy a sports car/new truck. Buy an engine with 4 wheels and save up for your nice ride for when you ETS or you make E6.

Ever played Fallout: New Vegas? Member the cazadors? Well, they're real. And they are fucking massive as is. Also, LOTS or snakes, spiders and scorpions (only a few are actually dangerous). It's in thr middle of nowhere. Neighbors are a federal prison full of complete scum. Town itself is fucking ghetto trash due to all the military "families" shitting up the place.

Unfortunately it's not a good place. There's nothing to counteract the base's impact on the community.

The only saving grace is that you can own a decent chunk of land for not much but again it's in a shithole.

Here's how it works: first the military buys cheap land (long in the past). Next the townspeople build liquor stores for the soldiers. The good soldiers do their time and move on to the next base (don't get any DUIs btw) but the bad ones get kicked out. Then they stay in the town with the petty criminals and liquor store clerks and ruin it.

Fort Hood is unquestionably one of the inferior bases in CONUS. Overseas is best (but for some reason a lot of Americans don't like it). The bases on the coasts are generally better quality of life than the midwestern ones.

Keep in mind that one of the incentives for good behavior that fort hood has, is that you get to PCS elsewhere if you want to re-enlist. The place fucking sucks. If you're infantry, you're barely gonna do any kind of infantry shit because all the unit's time and funding is eaten up by maintaining the brads and abrams and strykers.
Heavy/mech infantry sucks. The training sucks, the chains of command suck, and the soldiers are all fucking fat and retarded for some fucking reason. Try to PCS to a light unit as soon as you come up on your re-enlistment window. You'll get better training, better funding, and have a command team that isn't full of fat retarded jackoffs who only worry about motor pool tasks and maintenance.

I was born at Darnell Army Hospital on Ft. Hood. Grew up in the area Copperas Cove/Killeen/Belton. Then in a cruel twist of fate, got fucking stationed with 1st Cav on Ft. Hood. It's one of the absolutely worst stations in the entire Fucking U.S. Army. Soldiers turn up dead and missing constantly. Not so much in the AVN units, but all the others are dangerous units to be in. It's a totally ghetto nigger base. Drugs, violence and constant stupidity. It's literally a ghetto with army uniforms and heavy weaponry. Killeen, the main town is dangerous. Murder is common. The town is mostly insane niggers. I'm not even remotely exaggerating. Cops don't give a fuck. The Bell County DA's office gives no fucks. Used to be, the main crime prosecuted was statutory rape. Soldiers knocking up teens. Government didn't like that black eye. Now it hardly gets prosecuted. Also soldiers fell out of favor with teen girls. Now they prefer drug dealing pookie niggers. Then straight to EBT. You'll find out when you get here that you got severely fucked. I'm living in Salado, on a ranch. Just out of nigger reach.
