questions that deserve their post
Why Is the standard IFV turrets around 25-30 mm and not 40-50mm?

diminishing returns on penetration combined with quickly-diminishing returns on ammo count per cubic foot of storage/magazine space.

because the guns were chosen in the 70s and 80s, when those calibers were the largest available
the XM723 was initially armed with a 20mm cannon, an upgrade over the .50cal on the M113, but was found to be lacking and replaced with a larger 25mm chaingun

if you went back in time and showed a 35mm armed IFV as a competitor top the XM723, they would have happily adopted it

25mm-30mm are the perfect balance between a machine gun and cannon and a true jack of all trades even before the advent of smart fused shells. They work great against infantry, great against low-flying aircraft and helicopters, really great against thin-skinned vehicles and other IFVs/APCs, good against infantry behind sandbags and in trenches and they can even rape a T-90 by shooting its turret ring or outright penetrating its sides

and unlike a cannon you can actually do suppressive fire and have the ammo capacity to do it for a while

because smaller gun = more ammo and IFVs don't have that much space for ammo with all the extra people they're carrying

less ammo was never a concern, and the main limitation in not having a bigger gun was mostly just not having anything larger to mount in the first place

ifvs, as per the name, are for infantry stuff, not for engaging tanks. 25mm is more than sufficient for infantry stuff

for engaging tanks IFVs carry ATGMs.

inb4 someone names some meme round; it was the one that people made 9999999999999 of before the truly optimal round was discovered. Maybe 31x117.2mm Thor will be adopted someday but 25mm and 30mm just werk and there's a fuckton of it around already

This. It’s the perfect size to go against anything not heavily armored. Think about it: if you wanted to protect yourself from 25mm, what would you build? A tank. Well a tank also protects from 40 and 50mm too.
23-30mm will go through civilian concrete buildings and anything this side of a tank. Moving up a bit in size gives you no new capability and only reduces your ammo load.
If you were taking fire from a commie block, would you rather have 300 rounds of 25mm or 70 rounds of 40mm? The slightly bigger holes aren’t doing much for you.
.50 cal is too small and 40-50mm sits in a zone where you’re severely sacrificing ammo count for no new capability over 23-30mm, so 23-30 is just a sweet spot for cannons.
Anonymous No.64495779 [Report]

It's not only that. The Bofors 40 is really fucking big and really fucking heavy. If you want to uparmor the vehicle, you have to cut weight from somewhere.

the 50mm rounds for those are almost the size of 25mm ones, they're super compact cased telescopic tubes rather than typical brass bottle necked cases.

modern IFVs are armored against 30mm APFSDS. the problem is that none of the expected enemies of modern countries have any modern IFVs so upgunning them is pretty pointless for AP.

Rounds penetration widely varies with type. 25mm 792 HEI ain't gonna penetrate commieblock wall. 791 APDS will but doesn't produce fragments.
Programed fuse HE set in delay will penetrate wall with boom inside but 25mm doesn't have such, also it would penetrate commieblock with difficulty.

i had to look all that shit up but if it's just a normal switch it would be pretty easy to modify even if the cap doesnt physically fit

literally just take the switch off, solder a line down where the switch was, and put it to your ebin tactical taped on switch elsewhere

I used silencershop for both making an SBR and buying suppressor. Don't know how in shop purchases of those would go, but the process is smooth. Just dont be a retard like me and forget your ATF login info and take 10 minutes trying to reset it

I didn't know about silencershop until now. Still seems like a bit of a pain to setup but once it's done it sounds like it should be easy for future NFA items.

Archery can be quite good as a sport as it not only encourages improvements in hand-eye coordination but also fitness in particular it helps improve upper core strength. If starting out I'd recommend no more than a 20lb draw especially if you got no arm muscle.
