Is the Grippen ideal for Canada?
What with the new Rolls Royce deal going through, is the Grippen the ideal fighter bomber for Canada?

I know a lot of Canadians are hesitant about anything American right now what with the talk of the 51st state and the tariffs, and the rumours of the USA being able to shut down the aircraft remotely, but I'm personally skeptical of the performance of the Grippen. What do you think?

>What do you think?
That it doesn't matter much. The three nations that pose a threat are Russia, China and most recently the US for some dumb reason. Russia can barely project power to their neighbors, China is unstoppable without the US's help and the US is just plain unstoppable, that is an insurgency / separatist situation, not a war.
As a Canadian I've always viewed upgrading Canada's military as adequately pulling our weight in NATO for a nation of 41 million and if we do get invaded we should be able to do more than provide moral support and Tim Hortons to US troops. When Russia invaded Ukraine our politicians talked big but didn't have much to actually send because of how gutted our military was. In terms of arms we lag behind many European countries with similar populations and a lot less land to defend. Less than a hundred tanks and fighter jets is a bit shameful.
So in terms of capability, would I prefer the F-35 to the Grippen? Yes. Would I accept the Grippen to stick it to the Americans who are foreign policy wise going through their "womanly hysterics" faze? Yes. Whatever we choose, I just hope we don't buy 20 of them and call it a day.

I'd like to see 48 F35s and 88 Gripens, And I'd like to have a squadron rotation that keeps a small fighter force forward deployed in the arctic year round, as well as a full fighter squadron based in europe.

>talk of the 51st state and the tariffs, and the rumours of the USA being able to shut down the aircraft remotely,

if the use wanted us as the 51st state, it would already be so.

China has been putting tariffs on us for 15 years but nobody cares because CBC didn't tell us it was bad

The USA could destroy our navy without leaving port. I don't think the ability to shut off the fighters really matters as does the perpetual neglect and state of our armed forces

If they don't want backlash for their word then don't say them. The position of president is actually and important one and words matter. Have some fucking tact.
>China has been putting tariffs on us for 15 years but nobody cares because CBC didn't tell us it was bad
Ask the average Canadian what they think of the Chinese government and you won't exactly get glowing praise. People expect a bag of shit to act like a bag of shit, your neighbor and closest ally playing the national emergency card to extort you with tariffs on the other hand, that leaves a bitter flavor.

Should go for Gripen and Rafale

No more American stuff

Leafs should also start their own nuke program

It makes sense only if Canada wants to dump America as a supplier because of trust issues. Otherwise the F-35 is cheaper and better.

Operating costs are significantly lower on the Gripen, the RCAF would be saving more than $500 million per year by only flying Gripens instead of F35s.

literally no amount of cope will ever change the fact that the gripen is a shitty light fighter at best. stop listening to eurocucks and go look up the gripen's tonnage. It's fucking pathetic.
oh and look up the price as well. eurocucks love to lie about that
literally a shitty light fighter with the price tag of a high end medium fighter.

how appropriate that the jeet jet is being recommended to the jeet colony

If anything Canada needs a twin engine long range interceptor with the farthest possible BVR capability. They don't need fighters, they don't need more than a handful of strike fighters to support allied NATO ops in the worst case scenario they're forced to need them.

Only the F-35 has the range, delivery numbers, and capabilities to replace Canada's rapidly aging CF-18 fleet that is quite literally running on spares from Australia. If money is the concern, might as well go the New Zealand route and give up fighter squadrons all together.

If can.gov was smart (they aren't) they'd try to bring the superhornet line north. But they'll buy euro instead, typhoon over rafale inshallah
>>64495585
Its a jet for modern, but poorer, countries. Sounds like you're the one coping.
>>64495492
It's too bad the poverty and malnourishment have left so many thinking so small.
Canada could use at least four jet fleets.
F35 for NORAD / NATO work
Typhoon for high speed missile truck
Gripen for Arctic use, army attached cas squadrons, and air force reserve squadrons
Drones to fill the gaps and do the dirty work

But none of this will happen, the gov would rather spend the money adopting more thirdies into our debt pyramid instead.

Eurocucks are indeed coping hard but I'll cut some slack about the Gripen (or, at least, how the Swedes use it) because Canada is geographically very similar to Scandinavia. Rafale is a retarded choice in the year of our lord 2025 though.

So you'll set your air force back 40 years to own an argument but America is the one acting like a woman? Bitch please, get me a sandwich.

Thought you irreversibly finally got Castro's son to buy F-35s awhile back anyway? That's what you need. Also your navy needs to not be shot with the fight with Russia pivoting to the arctic circle.

It's crazy how weak Canada is given their wealth and size. You could be another France if you wanted to.

What in the everloving fuck did you smoke for breakfast?
Canada is as large as all of fucking Europe. Sweden is barely larger than Newfoundland and Labrador.
Being designed for use on a continent of micro countries is the gripens biggest flaw, Canada needs a dual engine jet with some serious range.
Anonymous No.64496643 [Report]
>>64496639
It doesn't need a dual engine jet stop sperging. You need the F-35 which you already invested in and promised to buy like a dozen times already.

Buying 4th gen SIXTY YEARS after they were invented is like buying a sopworth camel for the air campaign in Vietnam. It's a junk of shit.

>So you'll set your air force back 40 years to own an argument but America is the one acting like a woman?
The fact that you consider it "to own an argument" is the exact attitude that is seeing your countries soft power and trust erode globally. It's not about the state of the air force, it is about not funneling billions into the US while they are waging economic war. Do you think Canada likes this? I assure you, most of us would rather have our closest ally back and be buying F-35's in a sane world.
>Bitch please, get me a sandwich.
Seems we will be getting the Swedes a sandwich.

canada is huge. they need long range. canada is also a meme country and will never use their jets for anything more than air policing. a su-27 is more suitable than a gripen.

Lol shut the fuck up and pay up. Don't tarrif your closest ally if you don't want to have the same done to you.

It's purely your woke politicians keeping you in your state meanwhile some corrupt dipshit like Orban can have all of Hungary's tarrifs removed with an ass kissing chat. Fact is your politicians are SHIT and put being woke over your livelihood. FACT.

So you're saying that Gripen jets are far better suited to leafy needs than for example F-35s, which have pathetic range?
>will never use their jets for anything more than air policing...
So they'll want a jet that's cheap per flight-hour to operate? Yeah, that rules out F16s, F18s, and F35s.
Gripen fighters would still be a promising alternative, since it's borderline maintenance-free and dirt cheap to fly compared to American-made fighters.

Compared to the Gripen, they do. That's not up for debate.
Especially if you take into consideration that F35s can't even break the sound barrier without lighting up the afterburner which doubles the fuel consumption.

both gripen and f-35 have pathetic range. they should make pic related with wings full of fuel, then it will have close to enough range.
