(said this on other topic threads) It's probably the 'best' of HK's trio of 1990 polymer receiver firearms, thanks to its small size dimension (in comparison to the G36 rifle, the trunnion design of which has heat rigidity problems affecting accuracy in sustained fire); it's like an in-grip magazine shrunken G36, a mini-rifle.
Some people complain about the charging handle/receptacle blasting gas into the user's face. Cartridge is neat

I should be able to buy one for my house, full select fire, for under $1500

They don't anymore but the reason they did was so that HK could argue the MP7 was a "sporting weapon" to the German government. What a based company. They literally have no benefit in it for themselves yet did it anyway to get the cartridge into German civilian hands which will hopefully get it into our hands next.

I agree but it's not that small. Also the charging handle bounces around and hits you in the face. Every example I've seen has a broken ch latch. No idea why it's so fragile.

Already mentioned the charging handle issue in my post (You) replied to. Agreed, it's a polymer receiver gun in which some aspects of the build quality seems suspect; but supposedly, all three of HK's '90s polymer receiver long guns (UMP / G36 / MP7) are "built tough"...

Not in a useable form. It's MK18 sized in reality. P90 is definitely too damn heavy for what it is but thr magazine layout and increased capacity make up for it imo. MP7 is a really good gun but it feels like someone tried to make a pistol into a rifle where the P90 really just does its own thing and its good at it.

I see how you're confused an emotional, you don't actually have experience with the weapon in questions. It's a little over 2" shorter than the MK18 with a 3" shorter barrel. In a ready to shoot configuration they're essentially identical.

The P90 is in a completely different class than either the mk18 / mp7. It's ready to go as stored and is absolutely effective in that form factor.

The MP7 is lighter as you point out but no one said it wasn't.

NTA but you are incorrect as fuck lmao

The MP7 is absolutely not the miracle gun it's depicted as but the main thing it has going for it is the fact that with a suppressor mounted an MP7 is the size of an unsuppressed Mk18 (or in this photo's case a 416; same sized gun).
Unsuppressed, in their smallest possible configuration with the stock collapsed, an MP7 is like 10" shorter lol.

Supposedly H&K USA are currently trying to work around the latter part of the issue. And with Germany trying to go full Prussia, rearming, rebuilding the military, and building a booming military industrial complex, we're likely soon see favorable changes in German export laws as well.

Civilian H&K G36s and MP7s on the US market may be a real thing by 2028-2030.

There's still a fair amount of resistance from the German government surrounding the civilian sale of the MP7 IIRC, H&K is fighting it but it's a tough pitch, the HK243 / MR223 and 556 were easy to justify as sporting rifles but the MP7 has too much of a cop killer bullet concealable terror gun stigma attached even though it's largely a meme and the round is a glorified .17 HMR.

It's a done deal on the German side due to Anchutz. 4.6 is already approved as a civilian caliber now as I pointed out. Previously it wasn't considered a sporting caliber because no sporting guns existed but now that a sporting gun does exist they can make a sporting MP7 for a sporting cartridge.

They won't be imported btw. It's purely a patent issue that's now been resolved.

Unless they can get them imported into the US they're NOT making semi MP7s, the 243 was sadly already a flop and this would be worse.
I had to work directly with a Kraut gunshop to get one because no one in the country was willing to order it (minimum order from HK was 10 rifles and it took them years to get rid of the inventory the first time around).

>Correct. About 2-3" in shootable configuration as I pointed out.
>shootable configuration
You can absolutely shoot an MP7 with the stock collapsed, anon. In fact it was designed to be shootable that way for bad-breath-distance bullet-hosing and that concealability and shootability is a large part of why SOCOM would sometimes choose it over the Mk18s and 416s they also had in their armories when the compact form factor was desirable.
Also though your 2-3" number with the stocks extended is wrong and you're looking at a literal photo of a suppressed MP7 next to a suppressed 10.3" 416 and the MP7's suppressor stops where rhe 416's suppressor starts.

Matt Bissonnette wrote in his book that there were cases when they've killed sleeping people with MP7 without waking other people in adjustment rooms

Came in before its time. When the whole PDW concept came out, everyone though the Cold War would never end in any reasonable amount of time (in fact, the failure to predict the Eastern Bloc's collapse in the late 1980's is now seen as a massive intelligence failure) so they thought that future soldiers fighting each other in a conventional conflict would be equipped with body armor. And they were, except there was a break for about ~30 years fighting desert wars against insurgents that didn't have body armor, so there was almost no point in getting an MP7 unless you needed something compact for whatever reason (low visibility work, non-combat primary role like dog handler). In the present, everyone, even the guerillas and discord edgelord mass shooters, has body armor so now the PDW concept might have a future again.

Yeah the SL carbines are cool as fuck. Supposedly they even made a select fire military version with flash hider and bayonet lug but I don't know who the intended customer was. Like a German AC556.

checked, yes I missed opportunity during the brief few years they were produced/available on U.S. market to grab one
What was so kino, is the overall design of the rifle to evoke a K98/Gewehr 43 stock shape. (in the same manner that the PSP P7 design, shape paid tribute to the M1910/M1914 striker fired Mauser pistol)
Some of the SL6s appear to have upper handguards without the 3 cooling slots. Is that just a production variation, or ?
