With a double barrel system, the gun can keep a sustained fire for a longer time.

Change the fire mechanism to alternate between left and right gun.
Maybe make them all semi-auto, then add some shit like the FRT to make it fire faster and alternate between left and right gun.

Give dual drum mags to the operator. One will have to be mirrored to the other side.

Advantages:
Entire team can share ammo with guy.
Improved logistics as the barrel and other parts are all the same.

it'd be a heavy bitch, especially the magazines, even empty
way easier to just have an FN MAG / M249, more capacity to weight ratio

i think the concept would work great on a PDW / PCC though
i've thought up basically the same idea as yours too, but in a P90 form factor

So what would you replace with this? Infantryman standard rifles dont need to full auto, machine guns play the role of suppressive fire. This would just be double the maintenence and cleaning for no benefit.
