For a battle taxi, I would've much preferred a party van than the HMMVWs. Not from fighting from, but would've been a lot more comfy. Or Bob on the Fob duties.

Non meme answer, second line transportation that can operate in semi improved roads. Its whats would happen if you put a van body on an M38 or M131 Jeep. The same kinda thinking that went into buying CUCV in the 80s, except for the soviets the military vehicle also became a civilian vehicle. The U.S. Just turned a civilian vehicle into a military vehicle.

>rugged and dependable
None of these words describe the UAZ 450 "loaf" series.
The soviet-made ones were all crudely hammered together by drunk workers doing the minimum amount of work possible.
All of the parts were of terrible, and generally inconsistent quality to such a degree that just about every part needed some level of hand fitting to work, which they rarely got.
The same story applies to the "modern" ones, except the vast majority of parts production has now been outsourced to the lowest bidder they could find in China.
These things are genuinely fucking trash, borderline disposable single-use vehicles with a life expediency of a few years at most before they're so badly fucked that scrapping and replacing them would be cheaper than repairing them.

By western standards, yes, by russian standards, no.
>available
Far more so than armored vehicles. But there's a reason we see fewer and fewer of these things. Instead we see increasing numbers of Chinese dirt bikes, e-scooters, and quad bikes. Supplemented by random old shitbox cars scavenged/stolen from the locals.

You know, Soviets made decent vehicles. It was just assumed that buyer will tighten up every single nut and bolt on it and redo all the electric wiring after delivery. When they exported Ladas to the west during cold war, importers basically overhauled and repainted the cars before shipping those to dealerships or customers. In Soviet Union and commie countries they expected buyer to do that themselves. Originally they actually checked the original paint job for defects, but after while stopped bothering with inspection and repainted all the cars by default. ZiL trucks also had some export success west, cheap and it decent off road capability for 60's truck. They replaced engine and transmission bought from Leyland, given the reputation of British vehicles of 60's and 70's, it tells a lot about actual quality of engines.

No, sadly the regular old PG7 type goes through quite a lot
You want the fancy boy BBQ grill slat armour against them, I think the Sanic spec reo-bar type like they have should be good against dogs, zombies, other mobiks and at least 2-3 war crimes in motion

No, they weren't decent vehicles even with those caveats. The parts were trash and disintegrated unpredictably. The manufacturing processes were also trash.
