The .44 Auto-Mag
Hi folks, Brit anon here,
Considering the awful state of affairs in the UK where owning a plastic Spork requires a loicense, my thoughts often run away to lands afar where my ancestors escaped this terrible systemic dystopia, and I often ask,
>If I were American, what gun would I own?
Without digressing, I'm a huge fan of Resident Evil games, and to those of you who know, you'll know the .44 Auto-Mag is an S tier weapon for bossing, with its super rare and powerful AMP ammo. Do any of you have experience with firing these off?? Is this is a complete MEME weapon to own for practical home owner / self defense use, or are you the kind of Gun owner who feels an affinity for a particular weapon such as this, and whilst Glocks and AR-15's are perhaps available and 'practical', you still prefer using the Iron your heart leans toward. I suppose if you are an avid gun owner, you'll be spending your time firing off the Iron you love.

I'd love to know how a Magnum feels to pop off! And can this thing really take a head clean off the neck like in Resident Evil? Limbs perhaps? Say shooting at the knees?

It is essentially a collectible pistol that would require you to either reload, or special order all of the ammo at great expense. I doubt anyone carries or owns one for any reason other than “I really like it so I’ve sought it out despite the cost and difficulty involved”. The only exceptions being those who “got a weird gun when my crazy relative died and I don’t know anything about it”

But if you want an idea of what it does watch any of the videos on 44 magnum revolvers…. It’s the same round essentially but the 44 amp had the rim cut off so it runs better in a magazine.

Yes. That doesnt make it not effective or fun. You will actually train with a gun you love, making it more effective in your hands than a "better gun".

Idk how 44 auto mag does, but 7mm mag is pretty fun. I've shot pumpkins and watermelons with 44 mag out of a revolver and the results were VERY fun. Ignore the shit on the side instagram makes it impossible to crop.

It's like $1.50 a round with free shipping online, that's cheap enough for something you'll probably shoot 40 rounds of a range trip

I have plenty of fun meme guns, I wouldn’t consider using one for defense unless I had more than a couple hundred rounds through it, and I generally make a point to put at least 100 rounds every other month or so through the one gun I do have for defensive purposes to stay in practice. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be fun, but I think if your gonna rely on it for defense of some kind then it would make a lot more sense to plan for regular practice.

Never owned one, never touched one. It's a meme.

Friend of mine, her husband ND'd his .44 auto-meme while dicking around. Barely missed his femoral.

Statistically, a Glock and an AR.
Signed, CZ75 and PTR-91 owner, mwah.

I used to own one. They have a reputation for being unreliable and picky about ammo though mine wasn't too bad. There is nothing practical about them, they are definitely a meme gun, which is exactly why I had one. It's pretty terrible for defense--much too big and bulky for CCW. That doesn't matter for home defense, but I'd much rather have a long gun for that.

It's a fun big meme handcannon that's a range toy for people for people who like big meme handcannons.

Yes, guns like the AutoMag and the Wildey pistol are memes, but only because ammo is a pain to source. If ammo were common, maybe these would be used more often as hunting handguns. Thank God Starline started making brass again in 2017 (.44 AMP had been previously discontinued in 1982); even handloaders were struggling to find ammo for these guns.

There's a reason the ammo isn't common: people don't buy it, because the guns never really worked all that well.
