I personally drive a 2004 VW Passat with a v6, because you can pick them up for pennies with no miles.
Nobody wants them because they are a nightmare to work on, but my commute is 40 miles each way and they are extremely comfortable and quiet inside.
If you're comfortable with the fact that you're going to be cursing at the vehicle and doing bizarre repairs every other month, they're great.
Waiting on the wings I've got a backup 2000 f150 and an 80s Volvo with 200k on it.
There's no real reason for me to "upgrade" to a new car. I don't want "car play" or self driving, I don't need a backup camera, automatic braking or lane change assistance, and I despise the fact that everything basically comes with a cellular modem sending back spyware telemetry constantly now.
I can't fathom how anyone can be comfortable with this shit.
I will probably just keep buying ancient beaters until I'm dead.
