>talking about the pros and cons of different zeros is cool and interesting
>at the ranges you are likely to legally shoot someone with an AR the offset between the barrel and your sights has a significantly greater effect on where you hit than the zero you chose to the point where none of the popular zeros make enough of a difference to make a difference

you technically extend maximum point blank range by having the sights higher. idk of that was an intended design consideration for the stg 44 and AR-15 or just a consequence of the way the buffer system in the stock/endcap worked.
I know the AR-10/15 wasn't based on the STG 44, but the STG 44 also has a spring go into the end cap section before the stock like how the AR's buffer spring goes into the stock

>Use eotech style reticle

I always thought that the relative lack of concern over HOB versus different zeros was pretty silly.
>Inb4 just guestimate and get good
Basing gear/setup choices entirely around the 1% outlier situation is just dumb when there are easy fixes.

You guys aren’t doing CQB properly your NGMI.

sure, but I would like to hit my targets out past 100y as well
zeroing my gun at range has no negative impact when shooting under 20y

Yes, but also not necessarily. If your goal is +/-3", you can use a 3" HOB and set your zero so the bullet starts off 3" under the point of aim, peaks 3" higher, and then falls back down to 3" under at the maximum point blank range. In this case, a 6" HOB would be worse and not better.

50 yard, 25m and 36 yd zeros are all good past 200 yards. you can't really legally shoot someone that far away unless it's like red dawn or some really weird shit is going on

those are just the less accurate versions of longer zeros for people who don't have longer ranges to shoot at

ok, the 200 yard, 250 meter and 300 meter zeros are all good past 200 yards and beyond that it would take a very rare scenario for it to be legal to shoot someone anyway and the difference at HD/SD ranges between those zeros are like less than an inch, maybe worst case less than 2 inches.
