It's probably some hierarchy animal instint, but we are programed to repect/admire/feel attracted to big males and the complete opposite to those that don't fit the criteria. See how everything related to a tall/short man is socially percieved as positive/negative. If he's tall and assertive, he's an alpha, if he's short, he's compensating. If he's tall and shy, he's stoic and mysterious, if he's short, he's weak and a creep. And the list goes on.
Hell, even those that are short but triumph sexually/socially/economically are always insecure. That's how bleak the male world is.
