There is definitely a social courtesy for most people.
They see a male. But then they note the costume and think, "oh, right, transwoman. She/her."

We treat people as a lot of genders/costumes, really. We have a lot of configured profiles in our head for treating uniformed soldiers, baristas, teachers, and trannies with a bunch of conditions. Genders are not different from social role/characters we play.
