Most "gender critical" people will admit to not actually wanting to abolish gender and in fact are conservative, but even the earnest GC radfems will spend a lot of time on trannies and not on abolishing gender. It's not sincerely their primary belief, no more than Gamergate was just about ethics in gaming journalism.

The irony is that if they got what they wanted and got rid of all trannies, it wouldn't create a society with gender roles, it would create a world where people would be afraid to be gender non-conforming out of fear of being thought of as a tranny, which would presumably be illegal in their ideal world

Gender roles are fucked, especially the "female" ones. I refuse to conform to that shit. My life as "man" wasn't bad because of the gender roles associated with it, that part was actually pretty fine. I just wanted to make my body closer to my goals and do some "transgressive" things with my appearance (like, clothes).

I'm actually gender critical as a tranny. Except, instead of you FUCKING COWARDS I believe in abolishing both sex and gender.
As long as there is any meaningful distinction between "men" and "women", whether based on sex or based on gender, then we are being oppressed. For feminism to actually succeed in the end, it is a necessary step (among other goals, but it must absolutely be one of them).
You can still keep calling yourselves "men" and "women" based on your preferences if you want. It just won't have any social force beyond pronouns and maybe some aesthetic choices, because we won't have gendered spaces or gendered assumptions and presumably we'll have a lot of tall and hairy people calling themselves "women" and vice versa.
