cage is an actor who isn't afraid to look like he's going to a 10, or just go to a 10, intuitively. he's an a non-actor's actor, who lives the mind of Bruno S., and is therefore capable of working, not just within the interlocking stages of a filmed theatrical production, and conscious acting "method," but also, within the world of cinema, with directors like herzog, on things like "bad lieutenant," which achieve the dionysian dream, the union of music and painting. there's this violent comic nihilism he brings to every performance that seems to say, "celebrities aren't really actors, are we? i'm not really taking this seriously, and neither should you. just have fun with it, baby." i'm not sure it would translate to the stage, but as far as film-model celebrities, "film actors," go, cage's style, as far as i'm concerned, is unsurpassed. he simply knows how to be filmed
