when you travel and live around europe what you realise is that young irish people have no sense of national identity compared to other countries. these people are incapable of actually thinking critically about the specifics of life in ireland and just copy whatever they hear other anglos saying because it's cool and catchy. they could use pride as a platform to draw attention to issues that actually affect lgbt people in ireland: the state of trans healthcare, the rise in hate speech in public spaces, the way city council policies are decimating queer life and forcing community hubs to close, the housing crisis and how it traps people in abusive environments, etc. instead they just hear that americans are chanting about cops stonewall blablabla so they regurgitate it. this doesn't happen in literally any other country i've lived in, pride marches usually have a focus on *local* lgbt issues. unfortunately it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, given the ages of people in this photo they probably don't even realise how different queer life was in ireland just a decade ago and how many community spaces we've lost.

i dont understand why they would hate "the cops". as far as i know the gardai here are very liberal when you compare them to the rest of the world. they dont carry guns, they allow female, gay and lesbian officers and they rarely if ever use violence. it just feels like these people saying it because americans are saying it and since america has a cultural monopoly on the middle class & the terminally online of this country they feel obliged to follow suit

i went to lancaster pride yesterday, it was so awful. everyone smelled like straight BO and it all just wokies instead of normal ass people that you could talk to. not to mention the really hairy shirtless guy in a skull mask that kept growling at me for some reason
