Really depends on the kind of tranny, some are batshit and clearly fetishists that want to top women and people can pick up on that while others come off as really feminine. It's not even just in how much they can pass, even some hons act very much like women and are into men and they're not seen as a threat because of how they come off. I think I'm a clocky pass but people are still completely fine with me and really nice to me because of how I come off, even before transitioning at all I was friends with girls and we'd hang out together and they'd change in front of me and everything. I like men though and I'm not remotely a top and people see that and feel at ease enough.
