i hear a male voice but not a particularly masculine one. the swallow-and-hold thing is really just meant to help you understand how your larynx moves and where. once you learn how to manipulate it on your own, you can quit the swallowing and just raise it; your throat will be a lot less constricted that way :)
>>40327434
i have not been here in a long time so i have not seen you post really but i liked your approach yesterday! i think a mix of both is nice but putting the old paste in a post below the op sounded like a good idea.

Does the larynx-raise method get better over time? Where does progress come from?
I can pull off Spongebob-voice well (roughly 15% pitch increase without manually raising pitch, according to Audacity) - where does one go from here? I keep having these "low undertones" - how to apply highpass filter to my voice?

ha i wanted to read because i have been listening to an audiobook lately..ty nona i will work on my intonation for next time
as for your voice, i think it could have a little more weight to it. i can't place exactly what it is you should change when i listen, but your voice sounds to me as though it is hovering over the ground dragging its feet as it floats along instead of walking on its own, as it were. i have no idea how else to put that and i'm sorry
i also like the idea of having names! i may just set one on a thread-by-thread basis
>>40332905
it is the nasality what is killing you at the moment, i think. try to raise your resonance a bit and lower your larynx if your throat feels constricted.
>>40333034
male, maybe a little congested

Thank you so much for the long and detailed response! I indeed am not doing swallow-and-hold though, I am raising my larynx just like that. I don't know why, but I have always had that ability, didn't need to learn it.
My issue is that the "highest it goes" right now is the spongebob-level and i was curious if it will get higher through practice, enabling me to reach higher pitch. And no we didn't talk before, this is my first time commenting here.

>>40333174
well you get used to having it higher after a while. but it requires regular practice.
don't forget about voice size too!

>>40333308

Yeah I totally see what you mean! it's a side effect of my reading practices really being hard focused on achieving highest pitch and resonance I can as more a muscle practice than an usable voice. But since I want to get that high (or be able to speak at that height at least) it is required to go through that I think

Thanks don't worry it is extremely common with Americans specifically! It's funny because I do not live in France and thus only speak to non-French people and have no issues being understood (by other non Anglos or Brits) lol
Maybe it's specifically those vocaroos I don't enunciate well and speak super flat because I'm focusing on other stuff (and like speaking flatter)

>>40327396
I would recommend not using the swallow and hold, do the silent H sound. There is a good TransVoiceLessons video about it, called something like meta resonance. But you are off to a great start

>>40327725
It's a bit too monotone, try varying pitch accross both sentences and words. I think it's good otherwise

>>40332905
One of two things: Either you are speaking with too much nasality, or you are speaking with a very high amount of AES (aryepiglottic sphincter) iirc.
Also work on having a lighter, more breathy (higher) open quotient.

>40333034

Still blissed out over the jump in progress - all thanks to you! This would've taken me weeks to figure out alone - and I felt stuck/plateaued at where I was. Now, that realization set an impulse regarding the what direction to follow now - I am noticing that there is a lot of practice to get the larynx up but not put strain on my voice - and I will be working on that!

BTW you have such a beautiful voice! Hoping to sound like you, one day!

For nasal voices open quotient are airflow are what you want to focus on. L’s guide has some stuff on it. An exercise I’ve done for airflow is working on exhaling as quick as I can without making sound and then I start talking and adjust.

Here is my voice https://voca.ro/1eenmaBpMsqk please tell me how I can change my voice to make it sound more natural or even just sound better or more attractive/appealing. I’d love any advice, I want to sound the best I can. Exercise recommendations are extra appreciated
