Richard Kelly is an awful writer but seems like a very nice and humanistic guy like David Lynch so while it's an absolute b-tier incoherent mess of a film it gets by on having a really sincerely beautiful emotional core (+ being made for an edgy, teen audience who weren't old enough to know better at the time of its release + very unique and intense vibes)
