i don't think you are overreacting but i think it is a little more nuanced.
i hate Abrahamic religion but i do not hate its practitioners. they are victims, too; they just don't know. individual people can be terrible, though, and it's hard to believe that two people of the same faith and same (putative) beliefs could treat you so much differently, so the idea of them existing as a monolith makes sense.
