if you apply for asylum you dont have to have super useful skills, you can work your way through everything slowly with a guarantee that you can be there until at least your asylum application is finished (which is 1-3 years in most EU contries)
depends on the country but in the richer ones you get benefits (not much but something), a place to live, and right to work after 3 months of living there
