Little German lore, the yellow book Gilbert is holding, most likely Faust, is like the German version of Pinguin books. So I just finished reading Nine Stones. It was kinda garbage... Dont get me wrong, the art was great, but the story itself was all over the place. There were random moments where everything just stops and go "Erm, well that just happened" like in a capeshit movie. The plot twists are just dumb, theres plot twists inside more plot twist to a point where it literally doesnt fucking matter. There's some parts make ZERO sense. The plot armor for the protagonists is straight up bullshit, John Wick levels of bullshit to where its just unfair to enemy characters. [spoiler]Thank god they both fucking died at the end[/spoiler] And the worst part for some reason, that the final pages are locked behind a paywall on patreon while all the other pages are free on Tapas.

it's interesting how adaptations work. stuff gets compressed, omitted or transformed via media trickery. the colors are nice, and there's some good use of the art and some dialogue to squeeze in information that was originally pretty elaborate prose, but there are also a number of structural omissions, likely in the name of space, and some questionable presentation changes that weren't needed.

the next volume is coming next year, and I wonder if it'll be similarly watered down as some of the more adult stuff here. that will probably piss people off since it's about Him.

Given how webcomics and even regular published capeshit tends to unfold, it feels so weird to read a comic where the challenge is cramming in information as quickly as possible because compression is of paramount importance. There are definitely some elements missing and things I didn't approve of, but some of the criticism there seems to miss that certain information was just moved around instead of being treated as the focus of a chapter. I don't know why this discovery would surprise me, considering 99% of 4chan non-trolling arguments about a media property involves at least one person who didn't pay attention.
Still really curious about how the next book will be treated since it's much more direct with the not-for-kids stuff and it drops the pretense that this is a story about a heterosexual couple with some random guy with a pet bird on the sidelines.

Decompression is awful. It worked exactly one time (the Warren Ellis Authority run, because that was part of the aesthetic and the story itself was complete, not open-ended, despite using ongoing characters). To me, the weird thing with endless webcomics is that you can just make a direct sequel! That's how books, tv, movies and other kinds of comics have always worked, and it lets the writer set up proper multipart structure. To give webtoon a tiny bit of credit, their season formatting does tend to enforce this to some degree.
I am still annoyed that they drew Ronan like such a weird potato though. That is not how he works visually; this is a character whose defining physical characteristic is sharpness. But they made a number of character design choices that do not gel with canon.

It's very good!

Should definitely enter your rotation if it isn't already. It's got a lot of fun ideas going on (closest vibe comparison in probably Mismatched) and if like me you have seen it around for a while but never actually got around to checking it out, I would encourage you to do so!

Seems like it comes out at a decent clip and I might pony up for the patreon to see if the spicy stuff is any good. Either way, recommend it if you were like me and thought *goddamn that's a lot of pages to catch up on* because it is indeed solid.

putting my editor hat on for a moment: the stylings for if/then and related constructions are a bit flexible, but omitting the 'then' generally requires the comma in its place, as in the first picture. starting with a prepositional phrase doesn't really matter.
I also feel like 'read' needs a 'had' to help the tenses work.
