why don't FtMs just relocate to asia instead of living in places where ppl are tall?

Not even FtM but "Yeah just go learn Thai or Vietnamese and move there" just seems like silly advice. A language, especially an Asian language unrelated to English, takes thousands of hours of listening and reading and studying to learn.

Not really. If you want to master it, sure, but just to speak it well enough to live there day to day. Hundred hours tops. All language shares the same base blocks. Nouns, verbs, adjectives. Just a matter of understanding those and the language syntax. Then learn the basic verbs. Won't take you that long.

100 hours isn't even enough to speak Spanish competently, maybe broken Spanish, with no previous exposure.

Definitely not depending on the language. Japanese and Finnish are very different to English. Thai and Mandarin might be a bit easier in grammar but the tones are notoriously difficult.

I do enjoy going to the ethnic neighborhoods and being taller than most men.

You don't think you have built a solid foundation to use by then? Honest question. Because i do agree with broken, but enough to go to the country and learn by engaging with native speakers.

I struggled with Cantonese more than Mandarin.
Though that was probably cause the subtle mouth shape changes changed entire meanings.
It does help when you learn English properly. Most people who speak it haven't mastered it completely either. When you have and have the basics of how another language formulates syntax is easier. I do agree that going to a language like Mandarin that can use context, it's a lot harder coming from something more direct like English.

No, but I might have overestimated the context of learning a language for most people cause I spent a while studying cryptography, which gave me a massive leg up understanding language coming in cold.
