you can make an ontological distinction between categories with no referent to the substance of said categories, one dog is different to two dogs its a mathematical distinction of quantity without any referent to what constitutes a dog. do you need anymore prehistoric concepts explained you mindless savage?

sex is a collection of sexed features of the human body. gender is the sex a person's brain expects. transsexuals are born with a gender different from their sex, and they use the assistance of modern medicine to change aspects of their sex to ease the dissonance

A chair is a clump of atoms in a relation to each other which suggests a solid state, ie an object
"Red" is a wavelength of a specific length, close to infrared, which, in our eyes, gets processed as a color we call "red

yeah, they're intrinisically linked
how we feel about gender comes from the brain so you can say gender identity is just part of our biological sex- and trans people then take hrt and get surgery to change other parts of it
while sex is ultimately the application of gender onto body parts, we socially construct even this category, so you can also argue sex is derivative of gender and it's linked in both directions
'gender and sex are different' with no deeper thoughts about it annoys me usually- it doesn't help trans people
people arguing with liberals saying this like it means something big could literally just agree and then go 'ah, so trans women are male women, well then, we want to exclude males rather than men' and the idea of transition and its importance won't even get to enter the picture

So you need to define these things to explain how they are different. Thank you for illustrating my argument anon

red is the most attractant color to our eyes, pink is a softened version of red - the purpose of associating the color that. most catches the human eye with females is to give females attention

... you do realize pink wasn't the girls color untill like the 1900s right? Pink being a muted color representing strength of a boy yet to be a man. Saying sex and gender are the same thing describes certain behaviors, items and attitudes as ontological to the sexes when they simply aren't. Have ingredients seperate definitions is useful in anthropology because different cultures have different expectations for the sexes what constitutes a woman isn't consistent throughout cultures but a female is a biological term that is relatively universal. Delineateing the two from each other is useful.

no, I don't
for example
you can't sit on red
you can sit on a chair
you can't touch "red" as a concept, but you can touch a chair
You can say something "looks reddish" but can't say "something looks chairish" but you can both say that something looks "like a chair" or "like red"

>sex
biologically male or female, the types of human bodies that normally produce sperm cells or egg cells
>gender categories
the social identities that correspond to the sexes
>gender system
the set of gender categories particular to a culture, together with the set of rituals and symbols and stereotypes and social roles associated with them
>core gender identity
the basically irrepressible sense that one should be this sex or that one
>personal gender identity
which gender category you consider yourself a part of or aspire to be part of
>public gender identity
which gender category you “read” as, or which people politely consider you a part of

Just remember that “trans” means “honorary” <3

I said sex is partially mutable, because HRT does give you some of your desired secondary sexual characteristics.
Also, consider surgeries, I'd argue they're just as valid as the real thing because cis people have them all the time. For example, a cis woman has breast cancer, and requires a double mastectomy, to cope with the trauma, she gets breast implants, she is no less a woman for doing this, likewise an MTF transsexual who gets breast implants is no less a woman for it.
