Wary of Drag
Is anyone else here wary of Drag Queens/Kings?
They're not like proper trans people that live their whole lives as their gender, but rather put on a mask/costume for a few hours to perform and that's it.
Especially when it comes to drag, it's often so over the top it tends to horseshoe back to mockery at least in my opinion. Like a cartoon representation of what a woman (or a man) is.
It doesn't help at all that in my country they try to lump them together with us trannies under the T ("Trans/Transvestite Collective" they call it)
Does anyone else feel like this, or am I alone in my distrust and wariness of them?
Anonymous No.40734566 >>40734818
I think they're alright but there's a clear disconnect... You can tell they do this temporarily because a lot of them are too bold and confident, which isn't the norm for trannies. It's like Hawaiian locals meeting loud tourists in colorful Hawaiian shirts.

I don’t like them but only because they are the opposite of the negative androgyny I’m attracted to. It makes engaging with local queer culture annoying

nope and i have no respect for people who get anxiety and hatred over them. i think it's complete loser shit to get mad at gnc people for cis people being retarded and/or your shortcomings at passing which is a lot of what this comes down to
do you retards actually think that if there were no drag queens/kings that cis people would see you and the clothes you wear and think "oh that's someone trying to be a woman/man i'll treat them accordingly because i have this guaranteed visual cue of their identity" and that with drag existing that's what's making cis people go "well...they could be a drag queen or nonbinary or a binary trans person but who can say since there are so many options!"
what's more relevant to *you* not being seen as a woman/man, your body and the way it looks or some stranger playing dress up? it's you, it's only you.

Im not trans so maybe my opinions isn't wanted but I think drag queens are cool. I don't like crazy over exaggerated shit but I think it should be perfectly fine for a guy to wanna dress as a girl and let that part of them out for a bit.

Women shouldn't get to be the only ones who wear "feminine" clothes and do makeup- same way men shouldn't be the only ones to wear work clothes and "masculine" stuff. I don't think gender should completely dictate what you can and can't do with yourself.

Sorry for the rant

I agree with this. My problem with drag is that it is exaggerated to hell and back. It's just a jacked dude with makeup on in 99% of cases.

and this is a problem why? 99% of drag queens look better and put more effort into being feminine than your average hon. drag queens don't make trans women look bad, you already do that shit to yourselves with your autism induced bad hygiene and grooming. if anything stereotypes about drag queens lead to higher expectations for trans women to be well put together and then confusion when most of them look like frumpy retards

I don't like drag as it exists nowadays because they don't even try to look female, which is the whole point, they try to look 'drag' as its own separate thing. They are just gay men dressing up. Good for them, or whatever, but it's got nothing to do with trans.

You’re just autistic and worrying about labels and normativity, stop being the gender police and let it go! Drag queens are part of our community, have done so much for all of us, and maybe they just feel differently about their gender than you and you will never understand. I can promise you if I had met a drag queen as a child, and I was shown that it was possible to play with gender and people will still like you and my parents approved of that, I would be a much more confident and functioning member of society today instead of still being a lowlife repper hiding in my room

Yeah, but... I don't know, I just don't really see anything wrong with it until you get into the stereotypical stuff that right wingers like to point out. I kinda vibe with the idea of shutting on the idea of gender roles and expectations.

Ehhhh, I guess so. It always felt like it was its own individual culture and idea desperate from legitimate gender stuff to me, so I never really thought too much about implications.

Isn't that the point? It's not trying to be a woman, it's like... Applying "feminine" things to masculine presenting people?

I don’t have a problem w drag, other than it often being kinda reductive towards women at times. My only real issue is how their performance gets conflated with my lived identity—and often times I think drag queens attach themselves to not just the cause of transgender rights but also to the experience of being trans. And that bothers me a lot
