Probably because I get into my own head such that I rerecorded the first probably 20 times and tried to make my voice sound passable to the point where it backfired, and I just did the second in like one take. I'm pretty sure I focus on the wrong aspects of my voice a lot and get really hung up on the pitch because I'm basically hanging around the androgynous range with what I can manage on that front.

i’m thankfully not too bad with the “in front of people” part. i used to be stupid extroverted kid, and while i’ve since gotten way shyer and more insecure, i’ve never really had much stage fright. i did lots of theater even and was never nervous about it, and liked giving presentations in school. i just can’t fucking stand my singing voice. i used to be proud of it, to a pretty embarrassing degree (my childhood youtube channel included songs, many of which were parodies, one of which i sang at a hyperlocal con for one of the guests) but my high school bf literally asked me to stop singing along to songs because i was ruining them lol.

what helped me was to focus on trying to imitate the actual sound i was going for, rather than focusing on the physical mechanics until i was a bit further along. everyone's different so you just have to try a bunch of stuff and some of it won't fail. it really sucks :/
