Newsom just seems to me a mercenary that has no genuine beliefs and just wants to do whatever will make him president. Immediately after the election he was probably told or convinced that dems lost because trans sports but when that line didn't really go anywhere he hopped on the partisanship is good, fuck republicans train. It was Newt Gingrich, speaker in the 90s, who was talking about how politics is a cutthroat war for power (he literally said this), and the Heritage Foundation says we're in a cold civil war. The clip in the ad is from her 2019 campaign. she never said anything about trans people during her 2024 presidential run until that ad came out and people started asking, and at that point she gave a very poor, "I'll do what the law requires" answer.
