We care for social constructs and understand them. For many autists, social constructs are absolutely essential and they can’t even imagine a world without made-up roles. As for lack of understanding, that only really applies to body language and communication, not social constructs in general. We‘re not some enlighted group of Marsians who are too good for things like gender, quite the opposite actually. Many autists are the least progressive Neanderthals when it comes to stuff like gender roles, as mentioned previously.
