I can’t relate to that, but I did have some of my pictures posted to different boards on here and people are ruthless. I liked him when I was a kid.
In retrospect, it's for kids. There's nothing to chew on in those books. The characters don't feel like real people. The message (if there is one) is flippant nihilism.
He also exposes his public school-boy classism in that whole chapter where he calls hairdressers and telephone repairmen the unwanted eaters of society, and finds humour in the idea of putting them all on a space ship, and sending them into deep space, never to be seen again.
