I used to do something similar as a passoid.
I tried to be friends with hons and people starting transition to help them figure out how to pass, how to dress, how to voicetrain etc.
Not from boosting my confidence perspective.

But none of them actually did any decent efforts to pass. They just always complained that "magic juice" does not work on them and sit on the internet under anime character pics.
Most of them actually had decent chances of passing, not everyone of them needed ffs. But they did literally zero effort.
I even used to meet with them irl, but they all just behaved as a cringe anime girls irl which looked really forced and unnatural. It was embarrassing to be around them irl.

I guess I am the "hon" friend (really struggle at passing, get harassed a lot, can’t get close cis friends and family to support me after multiple years) but that doesn’t matter when I’m with my friends. I’m confident and I’m happy to be close with them and somehow nothing that regularly happens to me occurs around them (not even being gendered male which is the only thing I’m gendered when I’m alone). I definitely have a more positive mindset than most nonpassers at my stage of transitioning but even then my friends would make life worth living no matter what. Don’t avoid potentially fulfilling friendships because of dumb posts like this and dumber passing/nonpassing divides.

I’m not brainwormed, I promise I do not lie about the constant harassment I can face at times. I’m content appearance-wise and somewhat confident with normal doubts and dysphoria, I literally just don’t pass. A lot of people can’t accept my transition because of it but I never alienate trans people unless they’re already proven to be bitchy and horrible. I’m sorry this happened to you but you have to work on yourself and remain optimistic.
