I've been in some discord and reddit servers and there seem to be a lot of people who are "trans" but only in their online persona. Irl they are men mostly and present as fully masc cis guys.
I realize these could be reppers or manmoders but does that explain all of this phenomenon?
Also they call me a transmed when I ask them if they need help with hormones or w/e.
What's going on here?
Maybe it's like playing a female character in an online game? Just a bit of fun?
But there's so many of them it must be like idk 30% of guys doing this which is much larger than the population of transitioned trans or even reppers would suggest.

most of these people are incredibly annoying and honestly give genuine trannys a bad name
they are (majority) non-dysphoric and never have any plans to socially or medically transition
AND they make the online spaces they inhabit worse for trans people, i dont want to be around these freaks who are basically cosplaying as my identity while sharing none of my experiences and giving shitty opinions which dont reflect the actual trans experience

I've tried reaching out to other trannies in other (especially online) groups, and really often the people you come in contact with have really serious and weird mental illnesses on top of just being trans and like being slightly autistic or traumatized or something.
One had multiple personality disorder with neopronouns, and genuinely got upset if someone failed to get their pronouns correctly based on whatever personality they were feeling like at the moment. Another was pre-HRT pre-absolutely everything but took pictures of themselves in a garish hoodie and posted it to people being like "i am a woman though, trans women are women", and was surprised when those people they posted to were turned off by that. A third one I met irl seemingly doesn't know how to take a shower, because every time I see them they reek of rotten ass and wear some shitty tanktops that are so oversized and ill-fitting that you can see their pre-HRT 30 BMI man titties from the side.
Imagine being me, a boy/manmoder on HRT watching these people I mog act like complete retards without any shred of self-awareness proudly sporting the label of trans, despite often not even having had gender dysphoria while growing up.

The only consistently working quality control for tranny groups I've seen is requiring people to be on HRT when they join, and filtering out people who trooned out at like 43 after having two children or something. Of course I wish there would be resources for pre-HRT baby trannies as well though, but there has to be some way of doing in group policing.

too real. i joined a local "gender diverse" server. they have game night at a local game store and everyone is a pre-hrt manmoder or repper or something. i talked about DIY in the server once and got jumped on by mods and a bunch of other people who were saying "I got double G boobs from taking 2mg pills. DIY is dangerous". i met with someone irl and "she" was an honest to god rapehon who had no theory of mind and wouldn't shut the fuck up about sex and how sexy she thinks she is. i stopped talking to her when she got mad at me bc she was taking 2mg a day and i put myself on 6mg until i could get injections. also she dressed like a pirate and used the women's bathroom while looking 100% male. the other person i met from there is cool. we have similar fashion and music taste, give each other advice on passing better, etc. but nobody who thinks like us is allowed to talk because the redditors own the only local tranny server.
i keep getting invited to their board game nights and i keep making excuses not to go. among all of us in that place are tons of nontransitioning "ftms" and "mtfs" who have jobs, home lives, hobbies where they dress as and act as their agab and seem perfectly content doing that. i don't get it. how are these people anything like me?

a lot of them are afraid to take hormones because they don't actually want the effects, some don't because their family would find out, but plenty of others do usually through informed consent.

Hmm yes my issue is your definition includes those who do whereas the question is about why so many do not. Why they claim to be trans but do not transition.
However I think you answer it, they do not because they do not want to. Some slip through but very rare.

Sounds similar to myself but I've never really claimed trans or anything openly. Not big on labels but I guess I'm a repper, and if I had to guess for the "What drives them to claim to be trans if not trans?", it'd be it's how they feel on some level with a combination of social and mental health factors convince them into repressing / hiding / denial / but still having little release valves of dysphoria such as cross-dressing in secret, having an online persona that's female or trans, and so on. I don't think it's so much as 'they want it' or 'don't want it', but the above factors + the person themselves (not everyone is going to handle trauma or hardships the same, regardless of what's logical). I think the nuance is important. That being said, I think it's pretty weird if they get defensive about it but understandably they're probably not the most mentally healthy people to begin with.

I only really lurk, I know reppers seem to have a negative reputation and connotation. I just hope everyone does the best they can with what they're given in life desu, in any context
