I mean I can go on about my parents/aunts/uncles/non-familial trusted adults talking shit about gay people, how they're not worth anything, how they should die, how I'd be kicked out if I was gay, etc. it all amounts to the same thing. It is when you spend every waking moment of your entire life rejecting reality and choose to live in a carefully curated soap bubble of fake acceptance achieved by locking yourself indoors away from where anything that can pop the bubble might find you and blocking any online accounts who might threaten your delusions. If you voluntarily crawl that deep into the mental illness hole instead of just going to therapy for your childhood abuse/neglect, then yes a child simply observing objective reality around them can be devastating.
