I lived a very closeted, very constricted life for a long time. I tried to deny who I was and obliterated any potential sign of femininity in my actions or presentation. Now I'm in a much better place, and I want to rebuild the parts of myself I cut off. I'm not afraid to be outwardly gay or feminine anymore.

Dating was only a thing that started with straights degenerating in the early 20th century. I guess I understand why young gays want to imitate it, and I guess its supposed to confer some legitimacy.

I think the antagonistic nature of the logistics between two males make it a real source for emotional problems like self doubt when its not working though. Young people blame themselves because they are taught by the previous generations that it should work, so when it doesnt, they blame themselves or feel cheated.

I mean, I did it too, longer than I should have. When I mention my views about it here, people sometimes think I am somehow attacking all gaydom. I dont mind if they think I am just wrong, but I try to tone it down so people dont feel personally hurt.

What does puzzle me though is how they can look around at what older gays are doing, what they are like, and not see where it leads. Like, its an obvious pattern and I dont know why young gays think they will be an exception.

But I guess if the entire society is hedonistic, including if not especially straights, I can see why romance and the decency of legitimacy would seem appealing. Its not like I can recommend the alternative of racing to the bottom, no pun intended.

I think its just a different time. For example, I was thinking about starting a chat for gaygen, but its a bad idea for a couple of reasons. For one, I am older, and should not be hosting something for people so much younger than me, its just poor taste regardless of intentions.

Second, I just dont have time to babysit and prevent drama and people from hurting each other, which was my original thought, to give people free space from trolls.

But third, the biggest flaw, is that this is 2025, not 2004. I have hosted chats before a long time ago. And I cant recreate 2004 in 2025. Its just not the same vibe as the original internet. Trolls used to be recognized as psychos and were an exception. People actually behaved normally and shared fun vibes without all the smut and violence and hate. Those people were shunned.

But then internet access expanded, and it got dark and nasty, and all the big tech companies started showing their fangs too.

So nothing we build today would recapture that. People are more casually vicious and the only counterweight is militant moderation. I couldnt do it even if I wanted to.
