i will take you in better faith than other that yes there is a decent amount of effort you can put in that doesn't cost a lot of money and that will help you look more feminine. i think its also plainly obvious that even that amount of effort will not be enough for everyone and there are a decent amount of trans women who do put in that effort and yet are still visibly trans. i think just retorting "put in more effort hon" is very dismissive of the complex reality of existing in and navigating a deeply transphobic society and when you pass you are able to avoid some of the harsher aspects of that.
