i think i'm a naturally willful person but i also got screamed at a lot as a kid whenever i made a mistake and for a while i thought that i didn't deserve it so i'd fight back pretty intensely, sometimes i'd get hit by my mom for it. i thought that for some reason transitioning and moving away would set me free from everything i was born with and i maintained a pretty intense sense of individualism and self-love until i was date raped and then told that it was my fault. i'd always been a big crusader against sexual violence so when that happened i knew i had to believe the victim (even though she later recounted and i'm not even really that attracted to women) and it just totally broke my trust in myself. so whatever adamance i maintain is just muscle memory from a time when i was someone else. if i'd stuck to the path that was hewn for me i would have been able to be what i was meant to.
