after some research this is actually a photo of Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 182. I am very confused why they would use an image of a horrible tragedy for this quote in the thread picrel

PSA Flight 182 was a Boeing 727-214 under the call sign N533PS en route to San Diego from Sacramento, CA.

135 souls were aboard on the flight. During the flight, a mid air collision occurred over San Diego with a Cessna 172 with two souls aboard. All occupants of both airplanes perished upon crashing into the ground post collision. 9 individuals were injured on the ground and others were killed.

The last words of one of the pilots in the Boeing 727 was “Oh, this is it baby!” And “Ma, I love you!”. The pilots were aware that they had struck something prior to the crash occurring.

The NTSB determined a multitude of factors caused this accident, such as the Cessna not maintaining their ATC directed heading, PSA Flight 182 not advising ATC that they had lost visual on the traffic, and various actions from ATC.

In another world where small aircraft like the Cessna 172 are mandated to have TCAS on board, such a tragedy could have been avoided.

May all souls involved who lost their life rest in peace.
Aviation is unforgiving.

also be advised my previous comment about TCAS does not really apply as this crash took place in 1978. additionally for multiple reasons smaller aircraft like the Cessna 172 mentioned in this crash do not have TCAS on board and it is not necessarily negligent from a legal and safety perspective to not mandate it.
