Tbh when I was homeless I just ate like end of day clearance bread. The hardest part is getting around where you need to be, any spot with easy cheap food, a bathroom, etc is bound to be high-traffic and other hobos are not necessarily friendly. Its best to travel between isolated amenities if possible to find low traffic, low security areas. Its also very helpful to find somewhere to stash your gear safely so you can at least look housed in your day to day, I had friends hold my pack for a day etc if I was gonna somewhere averse to the unhoused.
