The music of the birds, or language of the birds, is both a poetic way of expressing the beauty and glory of divinity to be found reflected in the creation, but also, on an esoteric level, refers to the activation of higher faculties of the human consciousness (or soul), giving the lover of God preternatural knowledge of various ongoings. This could include a literal ability to understand what’s in the psyches of animals, and to charm them, but also includes seeing into the hearts and minds of others. It could also include communication with and inspiration by other lovers of God from a distance, even ones who are nominally dead. Another phrase for this used in Sufic mysticism is “the language of the heart”.
Symbolically, birds are also associated with the spiritual, and the transcendence of ordinary human limitations. One of their major abodes being the sky, they could be regarded symbolically as intermediaries between the divine and the earthly, so understanding the language of the birds also likely has that layer of meaning.
