>>24466161 (OP)Philosophy utterly destroyed my belief in the Mormon faith I was raised in. I don't think it's possible to seriously study philosophy and remain a Mormon. Christianity is another matter, and I believe in the Trinity today, but the Mormon system is so poorly constructed that even a basic knowledge of babby's first Platonism would be enough to undo it in the mind of a believer, given time.
Philosophy also helped me understand the questions I was asking and the answers I was given. It also helped me understand the systems of meaning and values surrounding me and frame my life in a manner more true to my values.
When I refer to questions and answers I refer to things ranging from "what is the foundation of knowledge?" to "what does this particular political party believe?" I have noticed that those who are totally blind to philosophy walk through life almost asleep, unable to understand the foundations of the things they believe in or question, and I believe those who know philosophy have a certain power over these.
