Is reading books a pretentious hobby?
>>24467030 (OP)>pretentiousreally noone is impressed if they see you read a book today . it will be weird to find someone stare at any book that isn't part of his curriculum. it's really not more pretentious than collecting rare books for instance!
or won't give as much attention like any niche sport like golf or snooker.
>>24467037It's 4 AM here in New Delhi
>is consuming media pretentious
>>24467030 (OP)I don't think so. I've never met a woman (or anyone for that matter) who thought I was pompous for reading.
>>24467047Are you retarded? Sitting outside with a book is a total chick magnet (if you're not ugly and/or fat).
Also, who cares what others think about activities that you find rewarding. Also, it's a really affordable hobby since ebook readers are affordable and "free" books are everywhere.
when everyone knows you read a lot? You get lot of...
"You just think you;re smart, because you know a lot of stuff!! You don;t know nuthin! I make this much a week! "
note they are projecting their nuts off.
stupid people hate people that read and have the vocabulary and broad knowledge. Stupid people *think* reading is pretentious, when its actually not.
>>24467030 (OP)All human behaviour is status seeking and peacocking in order to spread their DNA. The notion of "authentic" motivations is nonsense.
>>24467030 (OP)I'd guess that most people don't read merely to appear sophisticated. Maybe a minority of posers
Reading is only as pretentious as putting on a nice shirt, working out, watching a movie, eating or talking, 'pretentious' here meaning creating an appearance that mismatches some implied real state of being, except the latter does not exist. Once you free yourself of the idea of doing anything separately from the outside world and its people, life becomes easier.
>>24468156Even your own post? Or are you the exception?
>>24467030 (OP)Anything is pretentious if you are pretentious about it.
How?
It's a solo activity most people do in private and basically never comes up in conversation.
There has to be a pretense for it to be pretentious.
Are niggas really going around pretending they read books?
Really?
Why?
>>24467030 (OP)Calling things pretentious has become pretentious.
>>24468378Only if the actual definition of the word is unknown by the pretentious user of the word pretentious.
>>24468156maybe if you're a woman or a fag
>>24467047This is a very absurd view to me. Is reading for pleasure really this uncommon where youโre from? Is it America?
>>24468340You have no idea how much pussy anon gets by posting his retarded takes on 4chan!!!1
>>24468156This is only true if you're a normie. A decent proportion of the human populations do things because they actually enjoy them, regardless of whether it benefits their social standing.
>>24468156Tell me you're an extrovert without saying you're an extrovert. I know we introverts often think extroverts have better lives but then they say stupid shit like this. If I lost my ability to be interested in something that is not just a means to spread my genes I would kill myself.
I feel bad for anyone without a rich inner life like you. Jesus, how depressing.
calling reading books a hobby is like saying idk going for a walk is a hobby, u learn to do it as a kid and then u just keep doing it, its not something "other" form yourself, like wow communicating using language is my hobby!
>>24467030 (OP)People are pretentious, not activities
>>24467030 (OP)And scrolling Tiktok for a combo of car crashes and twerking every 4 seconds makes you Joe Sixpack?
>>24468660This. It's just one half of the most efficient way to communicate ideas that doesn't require both communication partners to share the same time-frame. It's not a "hobby" - it a superpower that lets us communicate with people of the past. Just one-directional, but still!
>>24468408No, Americans read too much. You're not basing your worldviews off of stereotype now, are you?
