Plato's Form of the Good
In Platoโs philosophy (especially in The Republic), the Form of the Good is the highest and most perfect reality.
It is not a โgodโ in the personal sense, but rather the ultimate source of all truth, beauty, justice, and being.
Plato compares it to the sun: just as the sun allows us to see things with our eyes, the Form of the Good allows the soul to know and understand all other Forms (truth, beauty, justice, etc.).

We instinctively (and independently) have the capacity to think of ideals, we construct them for ourselves, and the physical environment and the contents of the cave (shadows and particulars) really don't matter all that much, at least in the sense of how "true" they are. The truest world is the human mind.

Thanks chatgpt, you're totally correct unlike plato-schizo BTW
>>24469774I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say this is human enough for me. What sort of actions have you come up with as a result?
>>24469804>What sort of actions have you come up with as a result?Comprehension begins only when the mind is free and the heart is receptive
>>24469813Hmm, well I wasn't questioning your certitude. It doesn't sound like you have any. I hope my question about death wasn't off-putting, I don't know when I'm going to die either. No point in going on about futile things right? I had a joke about something Strauss wrote regarding the inherent paradox of education being indoctrination since at least in his time it's exposure to so many conflicting ideas and thinkers results in a sort of anti-indoctrination.
>>24469840We are all going to die, this life is not that good anyway, there are perfect lives that God can offer if you are good enough and are treating your parents well, love your mom and father, love your enemy
>>24469853Aren't you supposed to be the one defying the gods in this conversation? Family is important regardless though. Strauss may not be the guy to talk to about loving enemies.
>>24469866I'm not Strauss, Much bigger than him though
>>24469871Clearly not on either count. Until that happiness is definite I don't think there's anyway to measure it. I'll leave you to your distortion field.
